Hardly worth reporting these days but just for the record: Lost my 4th battery capacity bar on my second battery this morning. Mileage is approximately 220,400km. Still doing well as a daily driver and I'm shooting for 300,000km in a few years. Then I'll be keeping an eye out for a written off Leaf for a battery pack swap.

... Mileage is approximately 220,400km. ... Any issue you have so far other than the battery? Mine have zero issue to date (only clocking 140kkm so far) and only visited dealer service 3 times since I got it at 13kkm. Last service at 90kkm (when I replaced the traction battery at Nissan). I wonder whether I'm the lucky one got reliable batch or not Oh, the original 12V battery lasted 8 years but the second one only lasted just under 3 years. Weird.

I wonder whether I'm the lucky one got reliable batch or not Ours has been incredibly reliable too. Apart from replacing the traction battery in 2021, the most significant thing that has gone wrong with it was the diverter valve for the wipers breaking. We had it fixed at a local mechanic for under $100. We gave up on Nissan “servicing” after the traction battery was replaced. We now only go to that mechanic for the annual rego inspection. Oh, the original 12V battery lasted 8 years but the second one only lasted just under 3 years. Weird. We are still on the original 12V after 9 years!

Hi all. My 2012 ZE0, which I have had since new in 2012, has 172000 on the clock and the range was down to about 60km (6 bars). I posted earlier about this and after some research I have had a 62 kWh battery installed by Louis Ching at www.biggerenergizer.com.au/ and I am very happy with the result. I've only done a few charge cycles so the BMS is not fully aware of the extra capacity. The GOM shows a range of about 280km which is more than enough for my commute as now I can charge once per week rather than twice a day. Total cost was about $16k. Was it worth it? For me yes as I still love the car after 11 years and now it should have another 11 years. I know the full history of the car rather than the unknown of buying (say) a second-hand 50 or 62 kWh ZE1. I have no relationship with the company other than as a customer but I am certainly happy with the result. If you are considering upgrading your battery at least have a chat with Louis.

Great update, it makes a lot of sense to me to replace a battery instead of a whole car when everything else is working well!

I should have kept my LEAF instead of buying a Kona that is slowly but surely grinding the bearings out in the motor and gearbox, just waiting for the warranty to end before it finally gives up.

That website shows the costs for battery only and says “Video instruction provided so any EV workshop can fit it for you. We have installers in VIC/QLD/ACT, please contact for installation cost” - so what was the cost of the battery and what was the cost of the installation? We had our LEAF battery replaced by Nissan more than 2.5 years ago and it’s still showing 12 bars of capacity which is truly wonderful. The car is now 9 years old. If/when it gets to the stage this car is no longer fit for our purposes, it will be at least 15 years old if not older. We’ve owned 4 cars and have held on to them for between 16 and 19 years. So I doubt our LEAF will get a second battery change!

We passed a milestone recently - 100,000 emissions-free km! I’d add a photo except I get this error message 🤔
“Error: This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit. Your file cannot be uploaded”
It has taken us 9 years to get to 100,000 km which is a lot slower than some others here 😄. The good news is that our “new” battery is nearly 3 years old now, has 32,000 km on it, and still has 12 bars capacity! I don’t have LeafSpy or anything like that to get the actual capacity, but it must be more than 85%, obviously.
I reckon our original battery was not treated well before we bought the car, given how fast it degraded…

Congrats EVangelist! It's satisfying to think about the thousands of litres of fuel you didn't need to burn.
I'll do some tidy up later and free up some space, I'll let you know when it's done.

Congrats! Yeah that has taken a while 😅, we've done just under 40,000km in 1 year of EV driving (not the Leaf, but it is still around). That's 'local' driving, no road trips, but we are a bit in the hinterland. Good to hear the battery is holding up well.

Hi Feng, Still got our Leaf as well but since Covid we have been at home mostly so only have 155k aprox on the odom, second battery original replaced under warranty. Down to 7 bars now though wish we could find a local Sydney battery place that could fit a larger capacity battery as the rest of the car is fine. Also have you thought of replacing the head unit with one that has Apple Carplay? as you would know our maps are so far out of date its not funny. We should catch up again, last time I saw you was when we had coffee at North Strathfield when they had the NRMA charger there. Talk soon :-)

Well it’s taken 3 years and 2 weeks but we’ve lost our first bar (meaning 15% capacity loss) on the second battery… it had to happen eventually but it’s still a bit sad to see it 🫤
The good news it took that long - getting nearly 35,000 km on the battery before losing the first bar.
Compare that to when we got the car new - we lost the first bar after only 15 months and 11,200 km.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes to lose the second bar. On the first battery, after losing the first bar, we lost additional bars (further 6.25% loss) at the rate of 1 bar every 17 months and 16,000 km. Or about 4.4% loss p.a.
At that rate, we’d lose the 4th bar (at which point my wife’s commute becomes marginal) at 150,000km in August 2028. The car would be 14 years old by then and possibly time to pension it off, unless cheap after-market higher capacity batteries are available by then to retrofit.
The battery in my Tesla is losing capacity much, much slower than that - about 1% p.a.

I'm at eight bars on my second battery, around 227,000km. Haven't thought much about upgrades, I just use maps on my phone if I need directions. It's been off the road for the past month while it's at the smash repairs. Half a year ago someone ran into the back of me. At least I'm not paying for repairs. Paying for petrol in the meantime is a drag though. The early days were such fun and exciting times. I'd be up for meeting up but it's hard with a young family. Where abouts in Sydney are you based? I wonder if that Strathfield charger is still there? It was left abandoned for years and still appeared on Google Maps as recently as 2021.
