5pm on a Xmas eve & the George st fast charger is as dead as the proverbial dodo. The Nissan dealerships are not answering their phones & there is only 20km left on the guess-o-meter. The Dundas inlaws are actually up at my place waiting for me to come have dinner with them & the wife. Thank God for the their outside power point under the deck, 2hrs late is better than not at all.

That was unfortunate! The charger at Steve Jarvin Nissan is available for free 24/7 and is publicly accessible with a Chargepoint pass. I found the NRMA quickcharger offline once and had to fall back to the Steve Jarvin charger.

did you try ringing the chargepoint support line ?
"If you identify a fault with a ChargePoint station, please phone the 24 hour customer service centre on 1300 300 885."
It can't get fixed unless someone rings in it appears to be online on the chargepoint website. steven jarvin is offline through

ChargePoint said it's not one of theirs, has Origin painted on it though? Maybe the guy meant it's not one of their online units? I really struggle with 'selective availability' even when it's free.

i didn't think it had selective availability issues. noone has given it a bad report on either chargepoint website or recargo.
it's odd that chargepoint say it's not theirs because charge point have it on their map. (at the same time they didn't do the install club assist did, charge point use fuji or eaton brands)
might have to try ringing NRMA

I posted on their Facebook wall and got this for a reply today: "Hi Matthew, the EV charging station is currently down for maintenance. Apologies for the inconvenience. We will inform you as soon as it is up and running again. Best wishes, Daniel, NRMA Social Team".

What maintenance consists of however is a mystery!

Could it be from the heat? It's not a good look to have a fancy charging station complete with shelter and bench and a charger that's completely off.

Drove by the Strathfield QC tonight to see it on but out of order again. This time it looks like the emergency stop has been activated but even after pulling it out the message on the screen couldn't be dismissed. It's running Windows 7 because every few seconds the screen would flicker to refresh like the program is restarting and you can briefly see the taskbar on the bottom. I've messaged NRMA on Facebook about it.

Thanks for reminding me....I was caught a little short yesterday and went there too, found the same thing (and an FFB in the spot of course). Also pushed emergency button in and out carefully, and forcefully to no effect
Also, I note there is no help/support number anywhere on the charger, not great service (even if it is free, no point having something that never works!)

They didn't reply to my message on Facebook this time, maybe you should try the same to get the point across? Here's the page: www.facebook.com/myNRMA

Perhaps someone should report this on plugshare or recargo so that others will know

I got caught too a few weeks back. I called the NRMA office in George St the next day. The guy they put me through to said the fault was with the external cabling from Ausgrid, and that the charger itself was ok. He was not expecting a quick repair by Ausgrid.

That might have been the first fault Kris and I noticed around Christmas/new year when the whole charger was off. More recently the emergency stop was stuck in the on position and according to NRMA this was recently fixed.

Yes it would! I went for a drive to check it out but decided to get some charge when I got there just to show my support.

My son has another 90 hours of driving practise before he can go for his license. We might drive out there just to use it and waste time!

We should keep it in mind and use it to show support. Also. there is plenty of shopping in the street (Aldi, cafes etc).

Okay, stopped by the NRMA QuickCharger yesterday but unfortunately wasn't successful. All working, everything on and no one parked in the bay so great start.
Pulled in and saw the friendly TOUCH SCREEN TO START message, very nice. After starting it said 61% and started to charge. After 2 seconds it clicked off saying UNABLE TO COMPLETE CHARGE, ID 38.
I thought maybe my charge timer bumped it out so started the car and turned the timer off completely. Removed and reinserted the nozzle a few times and tried to restart the process about 8 times but to no avail. Made sure the handle was firmly locked with the grip.
Even bothered Feng with a phone call to see if I was just being stupid! Thanks Feng, was very reassuring to hear that it should just magically work.
I went into the NRMA and they were very friendly and tried to find someone, but it was 5:15 and everyone was gone. They said they would make a note of it and did take an interest in my situation, which I thought was very nice. Full points to them.
Luckily for me I wasn't desperate for a charge, but it did make me manage A/C and influenced decisions about where else to do.
Made it home with 25KM still in reserve so wasn't a close call, but was disappointed not get the quick charge.
Any thoughts? Did I do something wrong or just one of those things?

the only other thing that would stop it (if the unit isn't faulty) would be your battery temperature. my i-meiv manual says that it won't CHAdeMO charge at high temperatures. (45degree+ at the battery pack which i can only check by plugging in a ODB device it normally sits at 36-38)
what did the cars temperature gauge say ? and what was the ambient temperature ?

It was warm out but certainly not hot. By that time we had driven for about 80 minutes straight. Don't know what the car's temp was.
Anyone know anything about the specific messages? ID38 probably says what happened.

Jim, I checked the NRMA qc today, and can confirm the problem. I saw an id 38 message too. Id been driving for 20 min prior to trying it, and had 5 bar still. Temp was confortable in the mid to high 20s.
I reported it to NRMA across the road. The reception didn't know about the problem. Then I spoke to Mark Williams, their bofin, and he didn't know anything either. We tried to get it working on my car for about ten minutes, but no joy. He did say however, that he would investigate the problem.
Chears,
Mark.
