I'll be amazed if they do g20 is close. Ausgird and better place took a long time to roll out. Even with council support.
Even with money council approval process can be slow then electral upgrades

I wonder if you have to worry with council when you use private carparks like shopping centres? They already have lots of 3 Phase with large transformers.

I have emailed Tritium asking whether they have sites picked out but no answer yet

I got a response from them last week about a couple of questions. They said "We are currently finding host sites to install the chargers and are looking at the CBD and along the M1 route." I am hoping that one of them will be outside the BCC boundary and much closer to the Gold Coast on the M1.

Well I dropped by their office today for a chat and to have a go with their charger. Paul and David (? terrible with names) were quite friendly.
Had a go without any instruction from them, so I could play guinea pig on how easy it is for someone to use. Had it up and charging without any prompts from them aside from being given a card to swipe with. On shutdown I didn't get it right first time. I expected to just be able to press the stop button, however you have to swipe first to "unlock" the charger and enable the stop button. Which is good news from the perspective of making sure someone doesn't stop your charge early on you when you walk away to get a coffee or something.
The unit is both Chademo and CCS, which is good news for any BMW i3 buyers. Also surprisingly shallow, it's going to be something that can be installed in a lot of spaces that a Nissan Chademo charger can't be. Emergency stop button is also behind what looked to be a piece of break glass / plastic, so no accidental bumps taking it offline.
As for other locations, hopefully one in Fortitude Valley near the BMW dealer. There are plans for one down at Griffith Uni, Gold Coast Campus. But the initial planned site turned out not to be viable power wise.

Griffith Uni, Gold Coast Campus would be a great place. Would open up all of the southern Gold Coast for me, down to Tweed Head. I could leave the Land Cruiser at home more often.
Just got back from at road trip to Sydney...would be great some day to that in my Leaf...or if fortune turns in my favor...a Tesla.

Looks good. From the article is looks like they are searching for businesses / organisations to help. I hope the RACQ will help.

I posted a support comment for Paul and the team at Tritium after a fairly negative comment about Tesla having the only solution. The answer to uptake is a good charging network. I enjoy it immensely in Europe where all the major supermarket and hardware chains are on board with multi standard rapid chargers. www.greencarcongress.com/2014/11/20141111-tritium.htmlCheers Stew

I think you did a great job in that post Stewart. And somehow you even managed to be diplomatic. Well done.

No, Tritium, Origin Energy and Chargepoint never called me back. I don't think any of these people are on the tech side, so not a reflection of their product. I will try them again this year. ABB replied from The Netherlands. I quite like their Terra 23 new.abb.com/ev-charging/multi-standard/terra-23-cjIs a 20KW unit, which is upgradeable to 50KW. It is 400kg (Veefil is 165kg), so more expensive to install (requires concrete pad to be poured). Costs about $14,000 euro (estimate list price), but there is an Australian contact, so will try them for an AUD price. I don't have enough money to purchase either tho. Currently I am focusing on Level 2, 22KW AC chargers with mennekes outlets. That way any EV with the right adapter cable can charge (Tesla / Japanese / European). Once there are more Level 2, then I will look at Level 3 (fingers crossed someone else puts them in). Les

Hi Les, I contacted ABB about their Terra stations last year and got the reply below. It translates to $35235.42 for the 2 outlet model and $27817.44 for the 1 outlet model: Thank you for your inquiry. At the moment, our focus is not on Australia, but mainly on Europe, China and the USA. Large volumes however are discussable. List pricing of a charger with 2 outlets (CCS en CHAdeMO 20kW DC) : EUR 23.750,- exluding commissioning and installation. List pricing of a charger with 1 outlet (CCS 20kW DC) : EUR 18.750, excluding commissioning and installation. Please also visit our website www.abb.com/evcharging for more information. Kind regards, Linda Muilwijk ABB BV

That is the same lady I spoke with. The pricing is so weird. A Terra 52 50KW was 24,000 euro (Now replaced with Terra 53) The Terra SC Duo 20KW was 15,000 euro (but is discontinued). Maybe they have put up all the pricing, or the list pricing is mixed up. I know they are supplying a lot of Europe right now. www.abb.com/cawp/seitp202/a3742a715214b4adc1257dab00391e74.aspx

Tritium's next generation of DCFC will be modular in design centred around 12Kw modules. They will be all 3 phase however. They are also designing an AC fast charger "backpack" for the current Veefil.
Tritium are very busy with european market which is why the G20 rollout never eventuated. The Veefil units earmarked were all sent to Europe. Interesting they are getting very good traction in very cold climates due to the liquid cooling. A unit is currently running on live test in the arctic circle in regular -20c temps and performing well.
They might be able to kill the market with compact small form DCFC for home. Lets hope..!!

Great to hear they are busy exporting, we need more of that in Australia.

Yes, more exporting! We are down to USD $0.81, so the product pricing should be more attractive.

Yup. Fills pretty quickly. Used it again last night. I went from 1 bar (13 km) 23% to 8 bars (90km) 80% in about 30 minutes (percentage displayed on the charger). Added 9.1 KWh. It will not go past 80%. You have to use the J1772 after that (added another 2KWh to get to what the car says in 80% - long life mode). Battery temperature went from 5 to 6 bars (was about 20C).

Note that after the fast charge you can indeed "slow" charge again with the Veefil and finish off the charging. It will not completely charge though as it will cut out as the pack requires balancing (as per my I-Miev)
