At the farmers market in whitehorse today (every second sunday) at the council offices I came across a couple of council LEAF's They haven't advertised this to the community at all ( i think it would be news worthy for the local leader). While the council chargers are for the council vehicles only i think the council move should be applauded. Now all i need to do is engage with them and see how they feel about a fast charger and becoming the second melbourne council too. I think the councils provide a second best opportunity (other than commercial ventures) for charger buildout - and working with community/advocate groups. Like i'd mentioned on a separate thread if an advocacy group got together and provided the fast charger hardware to a council like whitehorse - and they installed it as part of electrical / renovation work at a site then its a positive community move (and potentially revenue generating).

I had a chat with the staff in Coburg council (i.e., the location of the Coburg fast charger) a couple weeks ago. They told me the fast charger hardware of both Coburg and Swinburne suffered a few failure recently. The manufacture in U.S.A sent replacement for free but they will not send free replacement anymore. The staff said they are considering replacing the until with high power type 2 AC charger if the charger fails again and without free replacement. I see there will be no Chademo in Melbourne and the AC charging on the road isn't an option for us with the 3.3k charger. I was trying to suggest the Veefil to the staff (and of course, he was more knowledgable than me). His reply was "It is still a piece of 40k hardware". We need a new fast charger (such as a more reliable 50kW Veefil) as alternative to the existing, kind of, broken DCFC. I feel people running the Fuji fast chargers was burnt by the unreliability (likely due to they were designed to work in USA). If they see the Veefil is more reliable and support more EVs, they may change their mind. I really hope Whitehorse council to install fast charger as I visit Box Hill at least once a month (travel from Point Cook). If you need someone signing up petition or sending them email to support the fast charger proposal, please let me know
