There are two Tesla SC's in Sydney - their store at St Leonards has five bays, and there are four bays at the Star casino in Pyrmont. There is only one CHAdeMO in Sydney, at 32 George St North Strathfield.

Thanks for the info, evangelist; a forum here quoted the same data which I didn't believe given the size of Sydney - how do you Leafies get around such a big city without access to quick chargers? Another good reason for a deposit on a Tesla! (not that you needed one :-) )

Another good reason for a deposit on a Tesla! (not that you needed one :-) ) Well two things. First, NSW is Neanderthal when it comes to renewable energy in general and EVs in particular. NSW has the lowest percentage in the country for renewable energy, even including the Snowy Mountains Hydro scheme for gorsake. The government has just imposed new regulations on wind farms which, would you believe, now have to pass a "visual test" whatever that is. Funnily enough, new coal mines don't have to pass the same "visual test". Mike Baird might be a nice bloke but he's a close friend of Tony Abbott. 'Nuff said. Second, those of us who push on with EVs despite this antagonism are usually the lucky ones with houses and garages, hence we charge at home almost 100% of the time. Sydney is big but not that big that you can't do even a long commute in a Leaf. Sydney would be a perfect city for EVs, since so much time is spent crawling along in ridiculous traffic jams at 20 km/h or less. Burning petrol all that time is criminal. Last week on one particularly bad day, it took me 85 minutes to drive the 17km from my home to my office, a trip that usually takes around 50 minutes at peak hour or 30 minutes off-peak. At least being in the Leaf made it a slightly less aggravating experience.

A combination of minimal import restrictions, forward-looking policy amongst power companies resulting in many of the CHAdeMO installations (free use for now), an enthusiast with enough readies to set up a company (charge.net) to directly or indirectly finance and install most of the rest, and a growing awareness among the public of the availability of 10-12 bar Leafs at good prices - Trademe currently has 200 listed from about $12K. With the British pound devalued somewhat lately, 2016 Tekna's are starting to arrive at about $42-43K - very tempting with 30KW batteries and 6.6KW chargers. Our government is also dead-useless, all hot air but no substance, but our lot are making it happen anyway. The key difference is the ability to import, and take advantage of the Japanese and British government subsidies.

Speaking of charging opportunities, do we know who owns the hpwc to J1772 converter cable shown in the Castle Towers plugshare photos charging a Leaf from a Tesla destination charger?

Probably easy enough to do using a microcontroller with signalling, then just use the three phase into the portable chademo. Will work on that. Open evse has all the info.

Somehow that 10kw portable plugged into a Tesla HPWC appeals a lot to me Stew. Really surprised some bright young thing hasn't come up with a Tesla DC charger hack to work with a Chademo adapter. Fairly serious application I guess, you wouldn't want to get lost in translation.
