Haha - what do the petrolheads say when they see you in the Leaf?

I see you're towing a Leaf. I've considered buying one interstate (there aren't many in Qld) and thought I could hire a trailer and tow it home with my other car. However, all of the hire trailers I've seen are 800kg mass and can only carry 1200kg, which totals 2T which I believe is the legal limit for a car trailer? Since the Leaf weighs in at 1560kg, apart from picking a lighter trailer that I can't find to hire, how do you manage? Looks like a custom trailer possibly? Interested in your thoughts.

haha I love everything about the stagea....except it's fuel use, particularly when towing.....we get about 20l/100 (yes most people on this forum have forgotten how talking about fuel economy feels ) John, there is no specific limit for trailer weights, although anything over 2t needs a break away brake system. Yes my trailer is custom and has break away, I had it designed to carry heavy race cars like my skyline GTR, from memory its rated at something like 2.7t. The other limit on towing legality is the rated weight on your tow bar, and the manufacturer's tow weight and towball download for the towing car. Having said all that, it is almost certainly easiest just to get it put on a truck, would cost <$1000 to move between capital cities. Also worth keeping in mind that almost every hire trailer (certainly every one I've ever tried) have been poorly maintained, average brakes and swaying like crazy due to their hard life...

Thanks Duncan! Any recommendations for car transporters that would do either Melbourne or Sydney to Brisbane?

The dealer arranged transportation when I bought the car for FREE from WA to VIC so see what you can hammer out if you are buying a car from a dealer. The transportation cost was $850

Sorry John I missed your post, like Jake I'd start with the dealer because they ship cars all over the place, all the time. If not I've used 2 companies in the past and had no trouble with either, I think Ceva are the big one these days
