Two weeks ago: Chademo Strathfield. I'm sittin' in my Leaf getting a quick top up when I see a couple climb into the Audi icer parked behind me. The guy has to maneuver a bit to get out & I wonder if I should hop & explain I can't move mine while its on charge because the drive is disabled. As he drives past he pulls up real close &, with his partner staring stony faced ahead to avoid eye contact, gives me the big finger.
Last night 11pm: I knew I was pushing it when the turtle illuminated by I only had 3km to home. But when the big red battery symbol lit up & the throttle stopped responding I pulled over about 10 doors up from my place. I picked a boundary between 2 houses, thinking one of them would have a nice person inside. This morning I arrived on foot bright & early with a long extension lead & explained my situation at the first house. "Sure" said the guy "plug her in".
One of the things I like about my Leaf is the wide variety of people I would otherwise have never met!
I can relate to just missing out on your destination by a few metres: Seeing it there taunting you and leaving you wondering if you had driven more gently or not taken the wrong turn in my case how different things would be. Good thing you had a helpful neighbour! I had a helpful Mike with a tow strap.
I've also made the mistake of parking poorly at the North Strathfield charger and preventing someone from taking the spot behind me. I felt awkward about it so I stopped charging and repositioned my car. You can do it, but the cable gets angled. Maybe they had the i-MiEV in mind when they set it up and didn't think the LEAF would have its port so far forward.
Half a degree less on the heater & I'd have been good I reckon! George st has to be the worst the worst thought out parking setup for a charger ever.
I don't know kris, if you want a coffee or to buy some chocolates - it's great. I'd prefer it was out at Bowral or Gosford though, as this is really where we need fast-chargers. But we also need the one in the city, and this is it.
