Savages! That's a pretty poor record so far isn't it? It won't always be so bad hopefully.
Just looked up the pictures and seems easy to repair at least.

maybe veefil have a much better design with not locking them in, since there is some fascination with removing plugs from sockets them same happened to the betterplace chademo and i've seen some chargepoint stations which also suffer from this fascination.

Hi g4qber, how did you get around so much in your i3 without running out of charge with those fast charger failure? Do you simply slow charge?
Thanks for the update by the way, it's handy to know!

Mandurah CCS broken. Affects bmw owners This is the 3rd one now A. Margaret river B. Busselton C. Mandurah
But somehow there don't seem to be that many adventurous i3 owners.
Or they use their Rexes in the country.
I've only been contacted by one other Rex owner who couldn't fast charge Margaret river

Just a quick note on Reechos comment from june, $10NZD for a charge is really cheap, petrol in NZ is ludicrously expensive, when I was there three years ago it was more than $2 a litre for their crap 91 octane, that would make it a lot cheaper to run an EV in NZ than a petrol car.

My work in Brisbane is coming to an end and I've luckily picked up an opportunity in Perth. Now making preparations to relocate and will be shipping the Leaf and Land Cruiser to WA on the train. In Brisbane I've only done fast charging on a novelty basis, but with the RAC Electric Highway I can definitely see using it quite extensively as we will get lots of visitors who will want to visit the Margaret River region. From plugshare, it looks like the second set of DC fast chargers has not yet come online...the Harvey unit looks like the key one to open the region up....it's nail biting 106 km between Mandurah and Bunbury. Is anyone actively using the Electric Highway in a Leaf to tour the Margaret River region? My goal is to give all our visitors the Leaf and send them on their way...and if they want a trill, we can go smashing around in the sand with the autogas burning Land Cruiser.

I had a chat the other day with one of the guys (EDQ) rolling out the electric car highway on the east coast - he said there's a new charger in au that has a screen playing ads so is free to install ...anyone heard about this?

I've only heard of it in the USA voltacharging.com/ so the idea isn't new. the question is if you can get enough advertising to pay for both the install and unit costs and the running costs.

I'm still waiting the Harvey charger to go up. User 'Photomac' from AEVA forum ( Click Here) had a good detail trip detail with Leaf from Mandurah to Busselton. Jump to page 6.

Why broken so soon? Poor build quality or vandalism?

general public who don't know how to operate things and yank things. These different plugs definitely slow down electric car adoption Although I should admit, how to transfer tens of kW of power safely via pluggable interface that has to withstand public abuse is hard indeed. Tesla plug is the only makes sense so far. KISS (Keep It Simple ...)

Is the CCS latch that flimsy or is it being broken on purpose? One of the pics has instructions to leave it on the side and not to use the holster to prevent damage. Pretty cool how it's being repaired with 3D printed parts!

Using the RAC EV highway on our honeymoon, Dec 2015. Luckily the Dunsborough and Harvey stations came online in the week before. At 100kph the LEAF can do about 85km on 90% SOC. The charge points are about 75km apart. It takes about 25mins to bring it to 85% SOC and another 5mins for another 2kWh transfer. Curiously, LEAFspy Pro shows a SOC of 90% is 17kWh, on a 24kWh bank?!? We seem to get about 0.165kW per km at 100kph.

SoC always represents the amount of charge currently in the battery. As the battery degrades over time the amount of charge decreases, so 90% SoC after 2-3 years represents less charge than 90% SoC when new (i.e. reduced range). Also many Leaf owners suggest maximum real capacity is more like 21.x KWh when new.

Curiously, LEAFspy Pro shows a SOC of 90% is 17kWh, on a 24kWh bank?!? We seem to get about 0.165kW per km at 100kph. Thanks for this info! I was wondering this myself whether 80% charge will be sufficient or not to do such a highway speed. Probably not . My LEAFspy also never shows more than 90-ish% charge when the battery is fully charged. I suspect Nissan deliberately done this on the 2012 model (and older) for protection. What kills Lithium is heat at high SoC. Leaf's battery is the worst, apparently. Hence, that's why the battery voltage is around 4.1V at fully charged (and around 4-ish volt at 80%). So, this makes sense. Also, what I've found, for fast charging, the SoC indicates close to 100% at the end of the charge although it's only 80% (both the RAC and Tritium at UWA). I'm guessing the Leaf deliberately gives false info (via CANbus) to fast charger to limit the end charge? Anyway, if you google Prof Jeff Dahn presentation regarding "Why lithium-ion die", it's an eye opener (for geeks), and makes lots of things into sense (regarding Leaf battery failure in Arizona).
