Hi, I'm still doing my research, and someone on another list (a sparky) told me that the Leaf has no battery cooling system, and would deteriorate in weather above 40 degrees. Another person told me that one should avoid parking them in the sun on hot days. As I live in SE Qld, and temperatures above 40 degrees do occur, and I sometimes have no choice other than to park my car in the sun, I'm feeling a little worried. Isn't the lack of a battery cooling system a bit of an oversight on Nissan's part, given that the i-miev battery gets cooled by the ac during recharging?
Any thoughts?

In Maitland we have 40 degrees too. I try not to park in the sun or charge my car in that heat. I do watch the battery temperature gauge and it has never got into the danger zone and I've had my LEAF more than 2 years now. A battery cooling system probably would be a good idea, but it would use power itself and my LEAF is managing quite well in the heat without one.

I think people look into this aspect too much. Sure if you live in the desert it would be a problem, parking in heat, charging in heat all the time would be an issue. But for all of us I don't think it's that bad. We at least have all of our seasons so our weather fluctuates. Sure the battery cooling would be optimal but also cost adding at a time when lowering the price is needed.
And again any premature, excessive, battery capacity loss is covered by a 5 year warranty.

the original 3 year warranty on the batt was one of the reasons that I didn't upgrade to a LEAF from the i-MiEV
I only found out about the a/c cooling of the i-MiEV from acmotor (Tuarn) on the AEVA forums.
there is a "lizard" battery pack replacement should the gen 1 batt pack catastrophically fail. as others have said, there is currently a 5 year warranty on the battery from the date of purchase.
funny thing is that I have now bought a $80k imiev = i3. the beige interior put me off
but the foot park brake has put me off the gen 2 LEAF.
the light steering in gen1 put me off as well as the relatively weak regen. The i3's regen is a bit too strong though.
The i-MiEV is still my favourite EV, though the sat nav takes 30mins to never to lock on and there is no light in the rear hatch.

It's around 42 degrees today and even though my car is parked out in the blazing sun the battery temperature is currently hovering between 33-34 degress. Thank goodness for thermal mass!
