The LEAF festival seems to be a bit thin on the ground when it comes to details on their site. Will you be showing off your car there?

The presenters on Sydney radio 2UE were gushing over Teslas yesterday afternoon on my way home from work so I gave them a call and told them how great the Leaf is :-)

Nicely done. There was a Tesla owners meet today in Newcastle. 12 owners showed up. Somehow I don't think we'll ever beat that.

Looks to be Sydney only. Not easy to tell from their website. Figured it out from trying to make a booking.

My EV display that I'm organising as part of the World Environment Day event at Sunshine Coast Uni is coming along really well. I now have six different cars on show, covering all of the factory-made EVs in Australia, as far as I know. It is possibly the most comprehensive display of EV models to take place in Queensland - correct me if I'm wrong. There is my Leaf, an i-Miev, a Tesla Model S, a BMW i3, a Holden Volt, and a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The Holden Volt belongs to the council, and the PHEV is coming from the dealer, but the rest are owner-brought cars. The event website is www.wed.org.au but it hasn't been updated for the June 7th event yet. I'm also planning to put up an EV display, so quite excited.

Had my first experience of having someone pull up at the lights next to me and start asking questions. I even made sure to stop at the next lights so we could continue our conversation

What is it with EVs that bring out such a negative reaction from some people? I was tempted to reply to Karl and tell him I'd do the same if I owned a BMW (as seen in his profile pic) but I didn't want to escalate. Besides, I'd be stooping to his level. Attachments:

I just ignore those sorts of stupid comments and just say something positive about my own experience. Certainly don't stoop to his level

Yeah I don't like confrontation, I'm just being polite and factual on the Facebook page which seems like the best approach. Let the haters hate.

Sometimes jokes and digs don't work on social media as you can't see their face or hear the tone of their voice. It just looks nasty

Yes it does seem that way, it's like they're being defensive about their worldview.
Got your LEAF back from Lennock Nissan yet Phil?

What is it with EVs that bring out such a negative reaction from some people? It is truly bizarre isn't it. I've had a couple of hostile reactions. Seriously, if someone is hostile, I ask myself what are they afraid of? Why do they care so much about my vehicle choice? I can't work out whether they feel judged or threatened or both.
The typical hostility is I am just polluting elsewhere, charging my car with coal-fired power (no I'm not, I use 100% green power) or have I considered the end-to-end pollution lifecycle of the whole car including the batteries (yes I have, and it's way better than an ICE, every detailed proper report has concluded that).
Usually I respond along the lines of "it's great that you are so concerned about pollution and environmental impact and consider those issues in your own purchasing decisions. By the way, anyone can switch to 100% greenpower at any time and make a difference."
The other classic is "the payback period is [some big number] of years, you are an idiot, wasting your money pretending to be green" to which the response is "For me the payback period was zero because it is such a beautiful and pleasurable car to drive. What is the payback period for buying an Audi instead of a BMW?"

That raises my blood pressure just reading it, I hate it when they're ignorant and stubborn at the same time. Truly a defensive reaction. I've been quoting info from the Victorian EV trial lately since it's relevant to Australia: economicdevelopment.vic.gov.au/transport/rail-and-roads/electric-vehicle-trial/electric-vehicle-publications - being done by a government agency also gives it better credibility (I hope!). It states the payback period is two years using renewable energy. Also being from Victoria the carbon footprint from brown coal does put Victorians at a disadvantage. Any other useful resources would be great to share. I shouldn't feel like I need to defend my purchasing decision but I do like to feel vindicated.

I have never felt any need to defend my purchasing decision. I knew it was right when I made it and it is still right two and a half years later

LEAF OWNER?: Yes

Hi folks, I am a new Leaf owner and new to forums. I have also been looking for ways to become involved in promoting EVs; in particular, finding ways to help get more infrastructure here in the Canberra/Queanbeyan region. One thing we have been doing with our new Leaf is badgering our friends to just to get behind the wheel and drive it. They are invariably blown away ("It really is just a car isn't it" is a common response.

Hi gfb. Welcome to the forum. There are at least 2 other LEAF owners from Canberra on the forum. I hope you all find each other and arrange a promotional get together as people have done in other cities.

Had this idea a few weeks ago when I did this trick.
Overtake a heap of FFBs then slow down and get back to the end of the line. This will give the FFBs a chance to have a look at your EV.
