or we don't live in a country getting the shit blown out of it because it has oil..... This is one of the things I don't understand, why people are so hesitant to move away from oil when all it does is create terrible problems from invading foreign lands to oil spills to pollution. I mean, what the HELL is good about using oil when there are now alternatives? Rip off the bandaid already, declare that oil will no longer be imported in three years and we'll see battery development and take up of EV take off in no time.

But what about plastics, aren't they made from oil? Can we do without plastics?

Oil is too valuable to be burnt. I have recently saw a documentary on plastics and to my surprise most of the formulas for making them are a secret. So noone really knows what we are handling, including food manufacturers who use it for packaging. Hence, plastics are in our blood now in the true sense of the word. www.imdb.com/title/tt1292648/www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7X-J1DhfjE1 thing I noticed with the LEAF is that it was missing that new car (plastic) smell when we got it. I don't know if it was due to the fact that it is largely made from recycled plastics, which may have already leached some of their content or because the car has been sitting there for 2 years before we got it.
