markrmarkr, I was thinking similar things. But one thing I really wanted to do was take the 12KW unit and put a J1772 socket on it. I think you could take the negotiation result of the chargepoint to the 12KW charger, then pass that value to the CHAdeMO controller. Then I could charge near 7KW speed instead of 3.3KW. So let me understand - you don't want to do any re-wiring of your Leaf. But you want to use a 32Amp J1772 charge station, feed that in via a J1772 socket like this( store.evtv.me/proddetail.php?prod=AVC2 ) to the 12kW charger creating DC and use the CHAdeMO compatible charge controller from EMotorWerks to feed the DC in via the CHAdeMO port at the front of the car. I guess you could do it. How were you planning to use it though? It wouldn't be suitable for country trips, 7kW isn't fast enough.

Yes, that is it. I know it is not fast, but it is 2x faster than now I don't know if those 12KW units take 3 phase. If it does, then 3 phase 32 AMP lead could be added as well. If single phase, then a 63AMP lead. I don't travel much in the country, so not sure on the availability of the outlets.

Also, I saw the Brisbane City Council Blue LEAF yesterday. First time I have seen it.

I'm expecting a 3 phase version to be availabe soon, but you could roll your own rectifier for the 12kW version today. You would have to inclued pfc though, but it should be possible.
I'd wait for the 3 phase version and not woŕry about the j1772 front end. You would probably find the cost is about the same. And a quick google search shows plenty of 3 phase in the country. Of course getting access to them will require some social interaction.

I agree with Stewart - " I think we need to expand our options ". There are places with 32 Amp ( 3 phase ) un-metered outlets. Tap off a single phase with a suitably wired 32 Amp plug, some cable, and a 15 Amp socket, and away you. This works for me.

Spotted a white leaf in Newtown on Saturday. They looked strangely at me when I waved, fair enough because I was in the Stagea. Ironically I then spotted a Stagea that afternoon while driving the Leaf. That driver also looked at me strangely when I waved I think I'm doing it wrong

Brian already charges at 17 amps, cos it appears that he now has a 32amp wall box after the warranty module replacement. Has anyone else measured what amps they charge at?
the imiev charges at 13 amps volt 14 amps.
