Solar has been a roller coaster hasn't it? Those early government attempts at middle class welfare where you sell back to the grid at prices above what the grid charges then the other extreme (buy expensive sell cheap). I like the emerging technology (panel+battery) use the surplus to charge a battery, only draw from the grid when you need to.

Watch this become a reality, when the second-hand EV battery packs - aka Nissan - are ideal for home supply. As suggested the gigafactory will help drive this too. It is about $1 / AH for lithium batteries for the consumer at the moment. $20k to set up a 20000AH lithium battery pack.
