The LEAF has had an 8-year battery warranty in the US from the start.

one thing they might like to copy is the yearly servicing schedule, or perhaps they know that things are more likely to break down with the LEAF eg. heater. [edit: Looks like my message from an iPad got lost...] Anyway, I don't think that the heater is a service schedule item. The half yearly servicing is probably a favour for the dealers and not a reliability related issue as my dealer was commenting that they hardly make anything on new cars, the money is in servicing.
