There's a video on Youtube where 500 miles was driven in a day in the UK using quickchargers along the highway: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZsZgGqZrSQ. Towards the end you can see the temperature gauge at 9 bars which is over 47degC after 10 quickcharges in cold weather. It would be interesting to see how quickly the temperature drops at idle, I would be uneasy with heating my battery up to that level but the idea of going on a road trip sounds so alluring. On the flipside I've been reading about all the complaints owners in the US are having with reduced range in frigid weather (thankfully we don't have to worry about that here!). I wonder how many quickcharges are needed to warm the battery up to optimal and if you can maintain the warmth by strapping an electric blanket and goosedown quilt underneath the car to keep the heat in while parked. Just an idle thought.

The BBC article says that there are now 150 Quick Chargers in the UK. Sadly there is only one in Australia (NRMA's in Strathfield) and last time I went there it was out of action, waiting for Ausgrid to fix their wiring.

I always get envy when I read about infrastructure overseas. Not that I normally need to use public chargers but I would love to go on a road trip to Canberra one day if there's a QC or two along the way.
When was the last time you checked the Strathfield charger? NRMA told me it was fixed last week. Funnily enough a few days ago my mum forgot to turn the EVSE on before plugging it in. By the time it was discovered the next morning and turned on, they could only get 60% charge before leaving for some errands, the last of which they had to give up because there wasn't enough charge to drive to Granville. They could have used the NRMA QC along the way but I previously told them it was out of order (I forgot to mention it was fixed a few days ago!). One of the very few occassions the LEAF was caught short on charge and a QC would have been convenient.

We have two in Melbourne and Mitsubishi has one in Adelaide. The other few in NSW are Better Place units..? But also out of action. Check out the PlugShare app for the locations.. )

We need to think how to get the old Better Place Quick chargers back in use. Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe we could lobby other companies. Could be cheaper than expected.

Better place Level 2 units in perth are at volt dealerships. Haven't yet been removed and they will probably stay. We didn't have units installed in shopping centres I believe.
Yanchep is the only shopping centre that has an official ev bay, albeit basic 2x 10a gpo on a 20a circuit

Really? That's kind of weird, appearing to align with a specific brand. Seems like LEAF and iMiev owners wouldn't feel welcome at a Holden dealership.
You sure they were Better Place and not just Origin, sponsored by the dealership?

On the flip side will BMW i3 owners will be welcomed at Nissan dealerships since a few are on the official Chargepoint map? Will we be able to charge at BMW dealerships? I wonder what the likelihood is of i3 owners hogging charging bays and not charging, considering BMW drivers have a reputation of self entitlement? They're not all bad I'm sure.

Good point, just how far will everyone go to promote the success of EVs in general? Enough to get everyone to cross the brand line?

nissan bollards in perth are open 24/7 as long as u hv a card there is no signage, yet, saying Nissan only. better place units are within the dealers' compound so charging only during business hours, may be hard to get at with ICE vehicles in the way. only one side works at phoenix holden. www.recargo.com/sites/8919the one in rockingham is behind an electrified fence, LOL. www.recargo.com/sites/8564
