Hello,
Since I'll have time to kill over the Christmas holidays I was toying with the idea of driving from Sydney to Canberra in the LEAF. It'll be a miniature road trip with extended breakfast and lunch stops along the way.
Does anyone know places where I can get some charge at Campbelltown, Bowral or Mittagong and Goulburn? There's a cafe at Marulan who supposedly allows charging. I plan to go from town to town with enough charge at each destination so I can head back in case I have to abort.

Just a hairbrained idea at this stage. Here's a rough itinerary:
Bexley to Campbelltown: 42km, charge for 2 hours over breakfast Campbelltown to Mittagong: 59km, charge for 3 hours over lunch Mittagong to Marulan: 56km, charge to full Marulan to Canberra: 122km with Goulburn as a backup
I'm hoping my charge times aren't too optimistic. I want to find two places per town so there'll be a backup. Starting off with mailing Nissan dealers first.

Hey I do that drive every week without any problems. Only in the FFB though I reckon you can do anything with enough time and some co-operation from shops or servos

As a "tourist", you'll have a chance to walk a round and see, feel and taste a place with the extended breaks. I used the supplied level 1 charger at a Chargepoint last week. 2hrs10m gave me an indicated range addition of 45km in Eco and 39km if aircon' turned on. I guess if the Nissan level 1 is doing 9.75A at 240V then 2.34kW will go into the system. Your consumption is likely to be 0.12kW/km hence 19.5km - say 19km per hour of charge. If you grab your E-Station off the wall you'll get 15 to 18A input yielding 28.5km and 34.2km per hour charge.

I usually estimate 16km/hour of charge with the Nissan EVSE but I think it varies depending on how low the state of charge is (haven't measured it exactly). I think that 9.75A figure is from the wall, the amount going into the battery is slightly less than that.
I might shelve my plans until the weather gets cooler, it'll save charging time since I won't have to drive with the A/C on. If I'm lucky there might be infrastructure along the way next year. One can wish!

the break down of EVs in Canberra is FORK LIFT 10 LIGHT TRUCK 29 MOTORBIKE 4 PLANT 14 SEDAN 54 STATION WAGON 8 TOTAL 119
so at least once you get there you'll have some places to charge. I've sent out some emails to see if we can get more than 1 place on the recargo map between sydney and canberra.
the best temperature for your batteries is ~20 degree C maybe later in the year will get you better results as well.
