not sure if it's a question of legal more of if there is a market. (CSRIO already have a noncommercial version) it's only 1.5KW so it's not enough for an off grid system. so only leaves as a electricity smoothing system or to lessen peak load.

Well, perhaps it's time our legislation is adjusted for the times. Perhaps positive lobbying could adjust the laws.

They may be state laws in combination with electricity company regulations - I don't remember but I do remember there are problems

you can't use them in a black out unless your completely disconnected from the grid there are good technical and legal reasons for this. as for having storage and still being connected to the grid i can't see why not www.smarthomefamily.com.au/about-the-smart-home has a redflow solar storage unit to off set night time usage. (it was part of the ausgrid trial which could be a case of one rule for us and one rule for you)
