sounds like the officer had a personal issue. the video has a good point, a mobile phone and laptop charging at any spare plug at an airport/ shopping centre etc.. is the same legal issue without some form of expressed permission it would technically be stealing.

With my electric motorbike, I have ' taken-without-consent ' / charged in all sorts of places from fossil fuel stations ( loved it ! ) to group dwellings. ( With the bike it is easier to be discreet ). My ' Irish logic ' was that I was putting kWhrs into the grid at point 'A' with my solar PV panels, and taking it out of the grid at point 'B'. Hehehe . . . . That should keep the lawyers going for a while. Had I been in this guy's shoes wanting to charge my LEAF, I would probably have asked the school's permission first - and been very surprised if I was knocked back.

Wow! That seems incredibly pety. I can see them giving him a warning and a fine if they were serious, but this is pretty silly and I think the court of public opinion will come down hard on the police for this one.
