So my family was the first to get a privately owned LEAF in Australia. Now my Step-Daughter's fiancee's father is getting one of the first Teslas in Australia! I took him for a drive in the LEAF about 10 months ago. It's now clear that he's not one to be upstaged, and I'm impressed at the lengths he's willing to go to in saving face! ;D So as soon as his Tesla arrives (he's one of four initial orders so not sure if he'll be first or not) I'll be challenging him to an EV-off.

Is this the Model S? That's going to be so cool if he gets it! Good luck to him! If you need a posse of LEAFs for support when you have your EV-off I'm sure a few of us in Sydney would oblige! (any excuse to see a Model S up close! )

Brave man putting down a deposit on a car with no price, even though it's refundable.
When did he pull the trigger? Not to long ago I would have been scared of Tesla going under, but now they seem like the are here to stay.

I sat in one at the Frankfurt motor show and the build quality is amazing, everyone was drooling over it and the main touch screen is to die for. 2 cute rear facing seats in the boot to make a 7 seater model, storage space under the front hood and a chassis like a tank!
Jim, i'll clean it for free if he likes?

The first Tesla Model S in Australia it may well be.
Meanwhile, we have had a couple of the limited edition Tesla Roadsters over in The West for a while.

Mike, you'll have to get in line behind Feng and myself! ;-) If I were in the market for a luxury car I'd buy it in a second over a Porsche or Bentley.
I did a similar thing when I bought a digital cinema camera. They couldn't say how long it would take or exactly what it would cost, just that it would be amazing and worth the wait. They were right on both and sounds like the Tesla S will be the same!

He ordered it a few months back, maybe in May?

Wow. Though I guess if "a large metallic object" stabbed the LEAF's batteries no good would come of it. Anyone know the full story?

A good writeup is here: jalopnik.com/your-guide-to-the-tesla-model-s-fire-and-why-its-not-1440653929. The part near the end explaining the behaviour of lithium ion battery fires is an interesting read. A good point made is how often petrol powered cars catch fire after accidents and people don't think twice about it. But just because it's a Tesla and has been on such a streak of good fortune lately, it's been sensationalised by the media. A happy long weekend to those who get to enjoy it btw!

Bit hard to read the plates if the front end is on fire! j/k
I wonder if it's salvageable since the damage is so isolated and didn't penetrate the cabin? Don't know how modular the chassis is but it would be cool if they could unbolt the front end and repair it, otherwise it's sad to see the rest of the car go to waste!
