I should have posted this in a new thread instead of tacking it onto the NRMA thread. I have a type 2 to type 1 cable, but not an adapter (short thing, no cord). I can't charge at Tesla destination chargers, since the plastic on the type 2 end of my cord is too long. I could cut it short by 11 mm as I've seen others suggest, but I worry that then it won't lock into real type 2 EVSEs, making charges from those less secure (in the sense of the cord being stolen, but also in the sense of making a reliable, low resistance electrical connection). I've been searching for a type 2 to type 1 adapter from Ali Express, with no luck so far. There are plenty of type 1 to type 2 adapters (which would be useful if e.g. if I had a Zoe and wanted to charge slowly from a J1772 EVSE with a supplied cable). It seems that there are type 2 to type 1 adapters now. But they don't seem to come with a button/clip/catch, so I guess that they just push in. That works fine for my type 1 to type 2 adapter (I'm still using a J1772 EVSE to charge my type 2 MG ZS EV), because the type 2 socket is pretty large, but J1772 sockets are much smaller. So I worry that the weight of the cable and connectors will make these adapters unusable without the clip to hold it in. Has anyone used one of these adapters to charge their early Leafs? I note that most of the ones advertised don't show the top side of the J1772 plug, where the button and clip should be; the photo below is a rare one that does: I hope the image (from Ebay) doesn't get deleted too soon.

I have the opposite adaptor of one of these - a J-1172 socket to Type 2 plug, so that I could charge my Tesla off a tethered J-1772 charger if the need ever arose. But I’ve never used it, because all the DCFCs have CCS2 connectors on them, and for public AC chargers, J1772 is rapidly disappearing. Since I never drive the LEAF beyond the edges of the Sydney metro area, and always charge it at home, I figure I’d never need one of these.

One of the hassles of owning one type 2 and one type 1 car. I'm guessing that these are moderately new now, possibly there is only one model out there (by Zencar from memory). I've decided to buy one anyway and see how it goes. It was just over $100 with shipping and GST, so a little more than the opposite type, so it's not the end of the world if I have to toss it and use a cabled one instead. I'll post here on my experience. In my travels I came across a 63 A type 2 plug with cable, for well over AU$500! I'll need a 32 A type 2 plug eventually, but I'll get my ChargePoint CT2003 EVSE working first as a type 1. I'm getting one second hand. This one, if anyone is interested.

The type 2 to type 1 adapter arrived today; 11 days after payment. I can't test it* without a drive to a public charging station, and the local supermarket "charger" is still not open. But it fits; the Leaf beeped when I plugged it in. It has about 5 mm of vertical movement at the end; that seems like it would be solid enough. It looks just like the one in the photos above, except that the gaskets are yellow instead of red. * Oh, wait; there is a way to test it. I made this type 1 to type 2 to type 1 Frankenstein adapter, and it worked fine: I had parked close to the wall because of a recent storm warning (it never happened), so this only just fit! Edit: I don't recommend double adapting, obviously, except for quick tests like the above.
