Hi all still getting our heads around this. Have seen threads (and forgotten to bookmark) about USB cables vs dongles to WiFi or Bluetooth to the LeafSpy app (probably should have gotten the LeafSpy Pro, right?) but not too clear on what works other than steer clear of dodgy stuff from China.
Has anyone tried the ODB2 cable to talk to LeafSpy? We're a family of klutzes and just as likely to knock the dongle out with dire consequences, so thought a cable might be a better solution.
Also read that brakes could be impacted if leaving in the dongle? Anyone had any experience of brakes not working properly? Or under the specific circumstances?
Thanks for any info, much appreciated.
Cheers Jag

Hi Jag, This thread is a good discussion on what people (incl me) bought: ozleaf.proboards.com/thread/935/dongle-recommendationI don't know if a Cable would work with LeafSpy (which I believe is only available as a phone app). We had a Cable OBD Dongle to read Check Engine Light Codes on our Subaru. But that connected to our Laptop. You'd have to see if the LeafSpy App supports Cable connections to a phone. And if the OBD Dongle Cables have the right end to connect to a phone (Micro USB or USB C, vs USB A). LeafSpy Pro only has a few extra functions. Like reading the Firmware versions of different vehicle modules. And I think changing some of the vehicle behaviour eg. Door Lock/Unlock behaviour, and Interior Light Delay. And turning some VSP (Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians) on/off. The dongles are pretty low profile (only about 2cm stick out), so you should be ok. If anything, a cable would stick out more.

Hi Tomkauf thanks for replying! The USB cable is from OBD2 Australia - hoping to hear from them what they recommend - after reading about them in the thread you mentioned. The cable has the right ends for the Android phone (or laptop). Just not sure which one of OBD2's dongles is the right Bluetooth option (from their website) for LeafSpy. Seems like the one recommended in that thread only works with LeafSpy Pro. Am still trying to figure out if the LeafSpy app will accept a USB input (good point!). thanks a lot! cheers
