We have set the charging timers to come on at 11 p.m. and go off at 6 a.m., i.e. off-peak hours. So I was surprised the other day, when I was near our LEAF in the garage at about noon, to hear the ' clunk - clunk ' noise come from the car, that is normally associated with when you plug into the charge socket and switch on the power, prior to charge commence time. The car was switched off at the time, not connected for charging, and unlocked. The state of charge of the batteries was probably around 50%. Neither of the ' keys ' was in effective range. When I investigated further, I found the highest value blue charge light on the dashboard coaming was flashing, which confirmed that I had not just imagined the noise. After a short period, the flashing light / L.E.D. extinguished. Has anyone else experienced this anomaly, or was our LEAF just dreaming ? The ' clunk-clunk noise ' is layman's talk for what I believe the technical would describe as the ' solenoids making '

Twice I have found one blue light flashing - no noise that I was aware of but I am deaf and may not have heard it. Each time I turned the power on and off again and the blue flashing light was gone.

No I haven't noticed that, but despite my preference I am not allowed to sleep in the garage.
I do know the 12v battery can be charged at random times, maybe that was it?

or someone playing silly buggers via the app?

Ahaa, the 12v charge is the most likely cause - thanks for that, Duncan.
I tell others how smart the App is, but never use it, never having had the need. So I don't even have the App.

Interesting. I wonder if the blue lights come on while the LEAF calls into Nissan? Certainly wouldn't hear the clunk clunk at those times.
I think Duncan's 12v theory is probably correct.

Do LEAFs dream of electric roads? Sorry, couldn't resist the Bladerunner reference!

I don't have the App. either. I don't sleep in my garage, Duncan. I am looking straight into it from my kitchen window, that's why I see it, and it's particularly noticeable at night ;D If it is charging the 12v battery, why does it stop when I turn the power on and off in quick succession

I think the LEAF will only communicate with Nissan when it is switched on, i.e. I have seen the signal " Sending data " on the centre console when the car is switche on.

Phoebe, this would make sense. It would assume you need to use the car and suspend its maintenance until the next downtime.

Yep - I've seen the "sending data" too. Oh Jim, is this what Electric Cars dream of?
