Hi All,
I've had a leaf for about 6 months now and today after many emails and a visit to a dealer, Nissan head office finally managed to sort out my registration to the owners portal. The Nissan Connect EV app appears to show usage data, however does not show charge status and can not remotely control climate control.
My vehicle was Australian delivered and first registered in 2013. Has Nissan ever updated the software or maps for Australian cars? I've seen youtube videos of Leafs in Europe showing "Nissan Connect" options in the menus, however mine only shows the obsolete carwings.
My current firmware is 031 and the maps are 2011-2012
Thanks,
Leef

The CarWings stopped working for me a year ago and it was having issue before that. It is "normal". Nissan didn't release any map updates for the LEAF. I stuck in an outdated map the first day I receive my "new" LEAF in 2013.

I don't believe Carwings can be upgraded to Nissan Connect. I have a Japanese Import, and the people that crack these Headunits (ie. rewrite the Firmware) to change Japanese ones to English, have not been able to get these upgraded either. I suspect there's a Hardware level difference.
For example, Japanese Carwings versions can be made to have Australian Maps and Radio. Probably by copying the unit's memory over from one that was originally an Aus one. But my 2015 30kWh has Nissan Connect, which was never available in Australia. So I can't get those features (just English menus).

... The Nissan Connect EV app appears to show usage data, however does not show charge status and can not remotely control climate control. ... Hi Leef, have you tried (try one by one, not the lot): - Use the older app (see here);
- Disconnect audio fuse and reconnect again (see here);
- Disconnect the 12V battery and reconnect again.

believe it or not I got it working this afternoon. A bit of back and forth between Nissan head office, followed by one last try phone call. I have tried a few times last year but gave up every time after reaching dead ends with Nissan.
How I did it-
-I initialised all Carwings data from the head unit -Nissan created a new Nissan Connect EV account and attached the car to the account -I logged into the account and reset the password(didnt work with the supplied password) -Nissan created a new Carwings login -I punched in the new carwings login and password to the head unit -Bingo, the car connected to the server -I can now remotely operate climate control and charging
Keep in mind, one week ago a Nissan dealer told me it doesn't work and the Nissan rep that solved the issue today had never even heard of Carwings. The moral of the story is that Carwings is still alive in Australian delivered Leafs, through Nissan EV Connect.

Hi tomkauf, I would expect the reason imported cars can't connect in Australia is because they wouldnt have Telstra SIM cards attached to the Nissan Telematics accounts installed.

Hi tomkauf, I would expect the reason imported cars can't connect in Australia is because they wouldnt have Telstra SIM cards attached to the Nissan Telematics accounts installed. That's right leef, my Telematics definitely won't ever work because of that. GPS and Radio is seperate to that though. GPS just requires satellite signal and local Map data (the latter being the problem). And Japan has a different FM Radio Frequency range to a lot of other countries, so that apparently needs a Frequency Expander (I haven't got one yet). It will still show up incorrect frequencies, but should then work for local frequencies.
