www.caradvice.com.au/773401/2020-nissan-leaf-reviewOne thing I noticed compared to the pre-release models: The HVAC controls are different and the multi-function display doesn't mention Carwings. A quick look on the Nissan website doesn't mention Carwings for the new Leaf either. Is it something they're discontinuing?

I was hoping the new LEAF would mean Nissan might actually decide to maintain Carwings since presumably the LEAF population will increase significantly. But it’s still dead as a dodo so who knows...

It's interesting that the Leaf we get this time is now built in UK and no Pro-Pilot.

One thing I noticed compared to the pre-release models: The HVAC controls are different... They look a bit like the lower spec current models. But if done properly, I actually prefer a knob I can twist, rather than furiously tapping the temperature up or down button to make a big change half a degree at a time.

I wonder if these Japan spec cars have ProPILOT. The Aus spec ones do not.

The Aus spec new Leaf also has the ProPILOT button. But does not have the semi-autonomous drive functionality. Although there is some "lane keep assist" function. I did not experience any lane keep assistance when I drove one on Southern Cross Drive last weekend. The dealer tells me that the steering assist was perhaps disengaged. I'm obviously goofing to have to take it for another test drive.
(I bet that the car has simply had this feature disabled with software rather than been manufactured without it.)

Very pleased with my first EV.
Correct that the car does not have Pro Pilot, but didnt expect this so I dont miss it.
It does have lane assist, which my wife makes me have on all the time.
Driving carefully (with some Motorway) I can get 7 to 8kms/Kwh. which extends the range a bit more than I expected.

Another test trip today from Sth Brisbane to Boonah, total return distance 146Kms.Average consumption 6.5 Km/KWh.
Interestingly average at Boonah only 6.2, had Aircon on for return journey and stuck to around 95 - 100 Kmh. Some nice inclines and descents.
GOM at end was displaying 96Km. 35% of battery left. Drove in D mode with ECO and Epedal ON. First 1000Km inspection service on Tuesday.

I did an interview last night, in the leadup to the expo. I was talking to Ben Hamilton GM of Eastern Region Nissan MoCo. I hate watching myself on the tube, but I think the interview went well. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a4WuOyj-XE

We’ve had our 40kWh Leaf now for about four months. It’s wonderful! We had a Gen 1 Leaf for about five and a half years and we loved it. It was our main family car for getting around Canberra and it did an excellent job. I guess I wasn’t expecting a great deal of difference when we opted to get the new Leaf – just a lot more range. I was very surprised! It is a big step up in almost every way. You can go through each of the elements of the car and almost everything is a total upgrade – it’s a great car aside from being an EV. Looking at the EV aspects, apart from the big step up in range (from approx. 80km to 280km) I love the way regen has been incorporated into the car: e-pedal and particularly the ‘B Mode’ which is the mode I use most of the time. Highly recommended.

Thanks Davesc! Thinking about switching to one from the 2012 model, given that the new one has 8 year battery warranty and a bunch of safety features.
Anything negative you can think of?

My only downside is there is some internal wind noise under some conditions. Not a real problem but certainly noisier inside than the Gen 1 Leaf. I guess some may see a range of 'only 280km' as a constraint. Quite a few of my friends are buying the Kona for the extra range but it is a lot more money for what, in my view, is a much less desirable car. I don't think the battery size will be a problem for us if we stick to trips in the Vic/ACT/Southern NSW region. You're right about the safety features: I just love all the cameras, sensors, screens, adaptive cruise control, automatic headlights, etc, etc

Hi, I'm awaiting for my new leaf to arrive but am having anxieties about the charging as the sales person couldn't tell me what connectors I need if I am planning to charge on a regular wall plug. Can anyone advise please? Thanks

Hi, I'm awaiting for my new leaf to arrive but am having anxieties about the charging as the sales person couldn't tell me what connectors I need if I am planning to charge on a regular wall plug. Can anyone advise please? Thanks You are getting an Australian Delivered Leaf I assume (not a Japanese import)? If so, it will come with a Cable (EVSE) that plugs into a normal Australian 15Amp PowerPoint (sometimes called a Caravan type PowerPoint). That's like a normal PowerPoint except it had a wider Earth prong. If you don't have one of those at your place, an electrician can install one fairly cheaply. Until then, these adapters let you run a 15A device off a 10A PowerPoint, as long as it doesn't draw too much power: www.bunnings.com.au/ampfibian-15a-to-10a-mini-d-i-y-power-adaptor_p7050104In terms of public charging, most places don't require a cable (the charging cable is attached to the charger). Just download the PlugShare app onto a phone, and it'll show all locations nearby.

Oh ok, my mistake. I did assume the equipment delivered was the same as the Gen 1 Leaf.
That is the same EVSE charging cable that I have. so I can definitely recommend it as well. It is a good product at a reasonable price.
You don't want to be stuck with only being able to charge at public charging stations. Even a few hours is a long time if you are on your way to somewhere. Home charging is the key.

Hi davesc, does your leaf's climate control can be remotely turned on and off via NissanConnect app? Judging gen-1 leafs suddenly have this functionality back couple weeks ago (and has been surprisingly reliable so far), I'm guessing Nissan Australia is trying to get this feature back up for the new Australian leafs.

When I bought the new Leaf I asked about the NissanConnect app and I was given the impression that it doesn't (yet?) work with the Gen 2 Leaf. It's not a priority for me so I haven't followed this up. Anyway thanks for the advice re it now working for the Gen 1 Leaf, I will try and have a play with it over the next week and report back.

I had a bit of a play around with the NissanConnect app. I couldn't get it to work - it looks like it hasn't been updated for years. I'll post if/when I get advice from Nissan about an app that works with the Gen 2 Leaf.

I had a bit of a play around with the NissanConnect app. I couldn't get it to work You probably need the app with "Zero Emission" on the icon, rather than "NissanConnect". It's available from this forum, but I believe no longer from Google Play. [ Edit: It's in this post: ozleaf.proboards.com/post/16076/thread . Thanks, Feng !] I was told flat out that no app was available [ edit: or would work at all, despite my telling them it was working, I just wanted to change the email address ] for my Nissan EV (a 2012). It might be different for gen 2; I hope so.
