Just read about a joint BMW & Westfield initiative that will see chargers added across multiple states by march 2017 - but it doesn't mention the charging standard.
BMW as I understand it is CCS ? But I assume that any chargers would hopefully be fast chargers and would be dual ccs and chademo ?
Does anyone have further details ?

I just read an article about this. They're level 2 J1772 chargers. Not limited to BMW cars. Free for anyone who had the right socket

Was just looking at the chargepoint APP and it shows that 4 chargers are now available at Westfield Doncaster

Looks like it's finally gaining traction. The number of stations jumped from 39 to 55 around the greater Sydney region this week. Thanks to BMW and Westfield jointly rolling these out. No thanks to Nissan!

Hi Feng and all I'm back! The 6 Westfield sites were another quality install from Velocity Electrical on behalf of Chargepoint! Check out our new division www.vecharge.com

Just went to the Valet parking section of Westfield Doncaster and was told the chargers are offline at the moment. I parked elsewhere. I'll walk over to the charger after lunch and check it out. Not sure if it's actually offline or just 'sorry you didn't pay $12 for valet parking therefore it's offline for you'.

All working fine. The ChargePoint RFID I had registered fine. So it was a case of the latter... disappointing as far as I know EV charging is not a privilege reserved for valet customer.
Funny thing is, I rang up centre management afterwards and enquired about the chargers. And the answer I got was, 'oh as far as I know they haven't been installed yet'.
Absolutely hilarious, a great April Fool's prank except this was after midday so the fool's Westfield staff?

When I went to Miranda, I too asked the valet staff. Initialy they couldn't help, but then came back and pointed me in the right direction.

Just rang up the centre management today as it's the weekday crew hoping to get more information. Lady said that it hasn't been fully set up yet and they are no sure if it's just for valet parkers or for all. She has taken down my number and will call me when she has an answer.

Update: the lady made a few calls and it seems that they (westfield management) haven't made the final decision yet as to who they will make the EV chargers accessible to the valet parkers only or all ev owners.
if it is aimed at valet parkers only, it would be a real missed opportunity as the people who have EVs and PHEVs and use valet would be almost insignificant and the precious chargers would just sit idle most of the time and over time will just become ICEd since no one seems to ever use it.
I will wait and see and the next time I go down, I'll ask them again about the charger situation. As I mentioned, the chargers themselves seem to be all online and working. What isn't set up is the Westfield's management of the chargers.

I am the first one to charge at that charger and added the charger to PlugShare.
I talked to their Concierge and it is definitely free for any EVs.
The valet parking staff didn't let me charge but I insisted the concierge service said it was ready for us to use. At the end, I got it.
I checked PlugShare today and people were getting advice from concierge (after intervention of BMW) to just drive straight to the charger.

I tried out the ones at Bondi Westfield today. There are 4 in the southern carpark(P3),for public use and it worked well with my Chargepoint card. All the spots were available even though the car park was quite busy. There are another 2 in the northern valet section - not sure if the public can use them, but there is no real need.

Westfield are crap but a request to talk to Centre Management while you are there might help. YOu're dealing with the Valet guys who are $10 per hour fools who just don't want anything out of the ordinary in their shift.

Went today out of necessity rather than curiosity as I had the final bar flashing with 11kms range left on the GOM. Arrived at the valet parking area and asked to use the charger and this time the attendant directed me to the general direction of the charger and allowed access! That's a success! Parked for just over 2 hours, had lunch and ended up with more than enough charge to run a few errands and drive home afterwards. So I guess that's a big thumbs up from me!

Btw, I was sweating bullets as we were approaching Doncaster. I had my wife, kids and mother in law in the car. It would have been an utter disaster if were to run out of power in the middle of the road. Definitely a 9.5/10 for range anxiety.

I wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning but I'll piggyback off this and say last night I finally had a nightmare where I ran out of charge. I remember dreaming I went from 10km to turtle to complete stop in almost an instant. The funny thing is that didn't bother me: The only stressful part of the dream was having my partner in the car getting cranky with me. She was not impressed when I told her about it this morning!

...last night I finally had a nightmare where I ran out of charge... Hmmm... we'd better quickly invent a new word for this new phenomenon: "Charge-mare"? I myself have infrequent 'charge-mare' on my electric bicycle (since that's pretty much my car) where I have to pedal so hard (but going nowhere) due to running out of charge. On the Leaf, the "charge-mare" more like no acceleration. My sub-conscious mind more worried about acceleration than charge apparently . Shall we take more psychological study on this 'charge-mare'? Public poll? Anyone else have 'charge-mare'?

I've also written to the Victorian Government to see if they are able to chip in some money to return the DC fast charger at Swinburne, Hawthorn back online. I initially addressed it to the Energy Minister but it got redirected to the Roads and Road Safety Minister.
Who knows what will happen, but unless someone says something, they won't even know.
