In Sydney - Willoughby Council have just opened (late Feb 15) two level 1 15A GPOs freely available in the 83 Albert Street Car park (basement of new development). Free entry at the moment, you get a ticket to park once inside. This is in the main shopping/ CBD area
Also as of 7th March 15 a two bays will be allocated for a level 2 Chargepoint CT4000 dual supply 32A station on top level (under and power taken from the 166kW PV array!) of the Westfield multi-storey car park, access from Albert Avenue, Victor St or Devonshire Street, Chatswood, NSW 2067. This is also in the main shopping/ CBD area - you get 3 hours free parking in this car park

That's great news. We've tried contacting Westfield in the past about charging stations and didn't get a response. Somebody there must be coming to the realisation that there's money to be made in attracting EV motorists. Maybe it's competition from the other malls?

Hi Thanks - they are both Willoughby City Council projects - with consent from Westfield for the latter project.

Wow Westfield must be cheering a $10000 level 2 for free stockland paid for their ones. Tesla drivers will be pissed off.

That's awesome as I park there every week or two! An entire area of the roof is covered with PVs, it's fantastic.
I'll take pictures and post when it's operational.
Peter, are you a local?

The dual port ChargePoint in the Westfield car park is installed, but at present only those drivers with the ChargePoint RFID swipe card can achieve a charge.
Access without card should be after formal launch - intended in a week or so.

Access without card should be after formal launch - intended in a week or so. why did they go to all the expense of a CT4000 if your not going to use the card system. you could of gotten 2 of the non access cards one for a lot cheaper. I've added the 15amp gpos to plugshare api.plugshare.com/view/location/61682

Used the new CT4000 ChargePoint at Chatswood today and it worked perfectly and it's free (I have a Chargepoint RFID card). Emailed me when it was done charging so we finished up lunch and headed back home. It's located under the solar panels on the roof on the SW corner of the lot (Victor St end). If only other councils were as progressive as Willoughby! BTW it was only 2 hours free parking at that lot today. Happy to pay the extra $3 for another hour when you get the ability to charge up while you're there.

Wish we had some out of town chargers in South Aus - Victor Harbor and Barossa would be a great start.

I used the public charge point at Westfield Chatswood the other day. I drove all the way there just to use the charger :-). Worked a treat. Thanks to Westfield and the council!

Quick question: What defines Level 1/2 charging? Does it stop at 2?

Level 1,2 and 3 are USA terms where level 1 is an 120Volt EVSE level 2 is a 240 volt EVSE and level 3 is DC fast charger (source en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_car#US_charging_standards ) The IEC (standards body) has also used the words mode 1,2,3,4 which are defined as follows "Mode 1" - slow charging from a household-type socket-outlet "Mode 2" - slow charging from a household-type socket-outlet with an in-cable protection device "Mode 3" - slow or fast charging using a specific EV socket-outlet with control and protection function installed "Mode 4" - fast charging using an external charger (source en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_62196 ) So technically they are both level 2 but in "common usage" Australians use level 1 to describe powerspoints (in iec terms mode 1 and 2) and level 2 to describe a mode 3 EVSE.
