Yesterday I used the Secure parking Station on Goulburn St in the city (Sydney).
There are 4 EV spots near the entrance, with power points for charging, so they are prime spots. Two of them were ICEd by Priuses.
How should we deal with this kind of situation?
1. Talk to the car park staff.
2. A sharp not under the wiper telling them a hybrid is not an EV, and don't do it again.
3. A more diplomatically worded note.
3. Wait until all 4 spots are ICEd, then do something.
4. Ignore it.
5. Something else.
Thoughts?

My vote is option 3, you don't want to generate any animosity between EV motorists who have the privilege of parking there and everyone else. Last thing I want is to return to my car to find it keyed or its tires slashed.
Maybe pitch it like, "You're half way there driving a hybrid, you should consider a real EV, they're better for the environment and means you can legitimately park here unlike what you're doing now."

I think that is still a little too snarky Feng

Yeah needs a little work, it was just off the top of my head. People skills aren't usually my forte!

Something like for option 3:
"The parking parking bay this vehicle occupies is intended for vehicles which need the power provided, to charge their traction battery. As this vehicle cannot charge in this manner, it should not park here."
I thought about trying to tell them they may block legitimate EVs from charg‌ing, but decided they know this already. They probably just need it to be overtly expressed that they are being naughty, and they will stop doing it.

Well I would talk to Car park staff and if they put a note on the windscreen or wait and cop the offender you shouldn't get your tyres slashed!

5. Something else. Thoughts? remove the valve from the valve stem remember they drive a Prius they have no soul.

I think this all raises an interesting problem:
If we use a special EV only parking spot, we need to be seen to be charging - to justify the special treatment.
Feng raised a similar issue at his work, where it creates the negative impression that "we have to charge all the time"
I think in that situation education on the point that "sometimes we charge because we can, not because we must", is required.

Leave a sign on the window saying, "I wish I was a Tesla". Run an extension cord from the outlet to the car's exhaust.
No I'm not being serious.

I'd be checking up on Car Park staff and if nothing happens I'd complain to their boss who thought having this facility was a good idea in the first place.

I leave a note saying " Please do not park here. I needed to charge my LEAF as I don't have many km's left. The cables are too short to reach the other carparks " I make the frowny face big. Not nasty, and hopefully they feel bad.

The best response to this is to say "OK, imagine there was free petrol where you park your car. Would you take the option to fill you car up, even if you didn't need to? Well, that's exactly what I'm doing here, except with electricity instead."

Two of them were ICEd by Priuses. I've only parked there once since getting my Leaf and didn't know those spots were there until I had already driven past them. There was someone behind me so I couldn't stop and reverse, and it's a one-way traffic loop there anyway. Ended up parking on the 4th floor. I'll know next time! As you say they are prime spots and that parking station fills up quickly. All 4 spots were empty, but it was early-ish in the morning.

I won't make that mistake again.

The other point is that we should use these spots (and the free power), even if we don't need to. So that whoever provided them can see they are being used. A couple of years from now it wont be an issue, but for the time being, we need to avoid loosing the hard won gains we have made.

As long as the four spots aren't ICEd, it sounds like an owners meet waiting to happen. Who likes yum cha?

Are we going to bother with filling all four spots? Let's see how many replies we get. Maybe we can try some i-MiEV owners on AEVA.
I'll be sure to take a photo of it and send it to the City of Sydney Council.

I went back yesterday. This time there were 3 ICE's in the EV spots. Two hybrid and a Subaru Outback (not even a hybrid). here are some pics: Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedNote that the 2 hybrids have NAB graphics on them. One is a Camry and the other a Prius. Not a good advert for the responsible attitude of NAB's employees I had a word with the Secure Parking staff, and told them how to tell an EV from a normal or Hybrid car. 1. the word hybrid somewhere on the car. 2. it has an exhaust pipe. 3. it can plug in (and probably will be). I also gave them an envelope with strips of paper with my "diplomatic message" on it: "The parking bay this vehicle occupies is intended for vehicles which need the power provided, to charge their traction battery. As this vehicle cannot charge in this manner, it should not park here." I don't have much hope that they will do anything, but you never know.

Isn't that spot reserved for council parking only? I checked it out. It has a Chargepoint station - I couldn't see what system it used, but I'd expect a 15amp GPO. Here is a pic of the sign: Attachment DeletedSo I guess Feng is right, and we cant park there.

I wonder if it still gets used by the council? Next time I pass by I might stick a piece of tape across the door seam and see how long it stays untampered.
So if not yum cha then what else to do nearby? Who's interested in another meet?

Note that the 2 hybrids have NAB graphics on them. One is a Camry and the other a Prius. Not a good advert for the responsible attitude of NAB's employees Wonder if it's worth shaming NAB on Facebook? It's not as embarrassing as parking at a disabled parking spot, I doubt most people would be sympathetic towards us. Hopefully the parking attendant won't just put the notes on the corner of the office and forget about them all. If there's more interest from people but they can't make it this Sunday I wouldn't mind delaying it till more people can make it. Maybe I can finally visit you this Sunday to test out that generator instead!

Maybe others will put their hands up for Sunday HINT!!Otherwise, sure come and see the generator. I've done some testing which is reported on AEVA and don't think it'll charge two cars, but we can have a play.
