But the LEAF doesn't break down so don't need it and they are all still under warranty so have to get Nissan service.

Not only is it interesting, it's especially useful here in NZ where we are getting Leafs imported from Japan, and Nissan NZ are saying they will not commit to repairing any imported Leafs. (It's not as if they refuse to repair other models of imported Nissans, so it has caused a bit of ill-feeling in the EV community.)
(As of October 2013 there were around 44 imported Leafs and 33 new Leafs registered in NZ).

I think they refuse because it requires massive retooling and special training to deal with all that wandering voltage!

Sorry not to be clear. Nissan are happy to service Leafs that were sold through their NZ dealerships (Leafs that were part of the Great Australian Stockpile); the ones they are not happy to service are used Leafs that were imported second hand from Japan and sold via (non-Nissan) used car dealers.

Ah, that is interesting! I can understand them wanting to discourage grey market imports of new cars, but since these are used cars you'd think they would be happy to take the service fees.
Guess they want to discourage buying any car that didn't originally come from them.
I used to work for musicial instrument company in Austrlaia that had strict policies about servicing imports under warranty , but they were happy to let people pay for repairs.

Guess they want to discourage buying any car that didn't originally come from them. Yes, I'm sure you are right. The thing that makes me sad is how much ill will this stance is creating, such as evident here: www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=15534Which is pretty disheartening stance, Nissan NZ are taking, for the likes of many of us on the forum who are trying to change the world one EV at a time ...

Very sad indeed! In Australia, many of us feel let down by Nissan for their lack of effort and interest in promoting the LEAF. Seems like in NZ they are moving backwards. A more logical approach would be to embrace all forms of LEAF ownership to show the masses it is viable. They can protect market share on other models, the LEAF is in its infancy and every single advocate should be considered a step forward in the cause.

Bumping this thread up. It's super useful but too hard to find after years being buried. I had weird codes pop up lately
