Charging at airports

In the last couple of weeks I noticed a Leaf tooling around in Brisbane Airport Corporation livery and a chargepoint unit turn up on the map at their head office. So I thought I'd suggest to them installing a charger at the airport itself. In the suggestion I mentioned that having it as part of the Valet service was probably best idea. My thinking there was to prevent it getting ICE'd or having it tied up all day due to someone flying interstate etc. This was their response:

It's great to see you have noticed the new addition to our BAC fleet, the Leaf! We have taken on this vehicle in the last few weeks.

With regards to your query about installing EV charging stations within the car park this is indeed within our long term planning, however not currently in scope for production. We would indeed be looking to offer this product as part of our valet service, where vehicles can be monitored for charging when required.

My suggestion would be creating an online parking account (if you have not already done so). This way we can keep you updated from time to time via email about our online specials and any new products coming to Brisbane Airport Parking.

Newcastle Airport is expanding but I expect it will be a while before they get that far.

Newcastle airport last time i was there still had their betterplace charger and 2010 i-miev. not sure if it was removed with all the others but it was already ahead of Brisbane it just might of gone backwards.

Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) has two Blink units installed as part of the Vic EV trial. Currently only one (right) is working. I've charged there several times. Charging is free but parking is expensive!

Hi Leigh, I was thinking of using this charger at Tullamarine, do you remember the costs for parking? And Blink and Chargepoint - are they the same do you know? I have just received my Chargepoint card in the mail.

Hi Goldie,

Blink and Chargepoint are separate cards I am pretty sure. The Blink card is a full credit-card size unit whereas I think the Chargepoint is smaller.

Parking is about $14 for 60 minutes, $24 for 1-2 hour and keeps rising!
