We're thinking about moving to the Blue Mountains near Katoomba and are looking for any insight into the ownership and how your vehicle performs. Going to Sydney area would be easier.. but getting back home would require some planning I think... Also has anyone lost any battery bars?
Thanks in advance, Jeff

I think Blue Mountains Solar has a LEAF and I think they'll let you charge there too. I don't get quite as many kms out of a charge as I did when I bought my LEAF Nov 2012, but I still have 12 bars.

You could probably make good use of the free CHAdeMO quick charger in Strathfield. 90km from Katoomba and being all uphill prove too far a stretch, but if you could find one more charging opportunity along the way I'd say you would be set.
Getting to Strathfield would be a no-brainer as you'll probably be at 100% from regen by the time you reach flat land!

I've driven directly from Bexley to Katoomba and just made it. That's about 13km further away from the quick charger so you should be able to make it from the QC. When the battery starts to fade in a few years you might need a top up from Steve Jarvin down the road before setting off or Penrith Nissan along the way. I didn't use the M4 and drove conservatively to make the trip, but it's do-able.

Okay, it looks like it shouldn't be much of a problem then going from Parramatta to katoomba. But I'd like to use the M4. I have a website which says it's doable, but most things can be proven with theory :)Still waiting for a response on the trial leaf in victoria...

Hi jcan,
We live at St Marys and have gone on a test run up to Katoomba. We just got to Wentworth Falls and the GOM scared us so we turned around and got back to St Marys with more klms showing on the GOM than were showing at Wentworth Falls so in reality we probably would of made it thanks to regenerative braking.

Once you get over 75kph you lose range dramatically! Try and avoid any road where you have to drive fast over a long distance.

the m4 is a variable speed limit road according to google. I think at non peak times its top speed is 100km/h. my memory is confusing the m4 with the m7....

The M4 is the Motorway that connects the Great Western Highway at Concord and finishes at Emu Plains, the speed limit varies between Sections and also has variable speed limits in Sections, but starts at Concord at 70 (variable) then up to 90 around Silverwater, 100 just past Parramatta and the 110 from around Eastern Creek area through to Emu Plains. It is the main road to the West unless of course you take the traffic light ridden Great Western Highway
