The part number of mine is GM-22942881 and the description is "CABLE ASM-DRV MOT BAT CHA". One place I enquired mistakenly thought it was just the cable and not the entire EVSE.

Hi. New Leaf owner here A quick question. What is the benefit of buying one of these over using the EVSE charging cable that comes with the Leaf? I read somewhere that the Leaf is limited buy the charger and can only charge at <10A, so I'm trying to work out why ppl buy the volt EVSE (or others) and whether I need one. Cheers

Hello unnefer, welcome to the forum! The Volt EVSE and the supplied EVSE charge at about the same rate. The only real advantages are the Volt EVSE is wall mountable and costs far less so you won't have to worry about breaking the $3000+ OEM unit from overuse.
It's starting to sound like there are enough Queensland LEAF owners here for a meet up soon!

Welcome to the forum!
Couple of reasons:
1. While the LEAF charger is technically 10a they have a 15a plug on the end to avoid overloading home circuits. Nissan haves warned against using 15a-10a fused converters though some of us have without incident.
2. Some want to have a permanent garage charger and not have to transfer it to the car.

The main reason we wanted another charger was so we had one we could leave in the car when we were out and about we had a charger that could plug into a standard 10amp house point. We leave the Nissan $3000 plugged into the dedicated 15amp point at home and leave the $369 Volt charger in the car

so you got the Holden EVSE for $369? datsunleaf? nice.
feng do you charge in public?
a general question has anyone been unplugged or perhaps it is too early to tell.
the holden EVSE doesn't have a lock hole. next gen EVs will have the car lock the charge coupler in place so this will be less of an issue, but perhaps it is also good to have a padlock on anyway, as a visual deterrent.

I sometimes charge at work if I know I'm going out in the evening. I do the opposite to datsunleaf and keep the supplied EVSE in the car for when I need to charge away from home.
Gotta wonder if anyone at Holden has clued in on why they're selling so many EVSEs yet.

Hi and cheers for the welcome It's making a lot more sense to me now lol. If I grab the holden else I can use that instead of the Nissan one and risking damage to it. I Google a bit on evse charging options and have seen a few installable evse charging options that are similar in price to the holden cable. One was a bosch from memory. Are they compatible with the leaf? ...

you need to find ones with are compatible with Australia not with the LEAF you need a 50Hz and 240 volt. EVSE. american ones unless otherwise stated will be 60hz

Thanks for the info.
Do you know if there are fast chargers available at a reasonable price? The ones that use the larger charge port?

FYI: the list of certified chargers are available here www.chademo.com/wp/chademocharger/ I think the cheapest you can get a charger is for $30 000 currently but then the cost then depends on the installation location etc.. so no they aren't reasonably priced. there are some attempts to bring the price down but nothing polished yet. nissian seems to provide the cheapest price of around $20 000 but no idea if they'll sell in Australia

Brought the GM charger yesterday from City Motors Holden in Perth. Charged last night with it without issue. Got it for $350. Thanks for the Part No. and Desc. Feng, I would have battled to describe it to the guys there without this info, they were pretty clueless to what it was.

Ooh nice price I shall pay them a visit soon Just for a price check
They had/ve a better place j1772 cable model for their volt.
Jim can you please confirm with dean if Holden evse is covered by nissan
Northside nissan says not
But most dealers / manufacturers probably say no like a 2 year old who has just learnt the word "no". Anyway.

They wanted to charge me $362 originally, but I told them that RRP on this item should be $350 so they agreed to do it at that price.

When we brought the Leaf I ask about 3rd party evse's etc, they indicated that no 3rd party esve's are supported or recommended by Nissan, not even origin's charger or charge point (North Side Nissan Perth), this also included the use of any 10A to 15A adapters.
In my understanding of ACL any warranty would only be void if Nissan could prove that any fault was directly caused by the use of any 3rd party device, this would include the use of any public chargers and also any fault in the recommended 15A dedicated home circuit.
Given that the use of public chargers would have to be considered standard practice for EVs, I think Nissan would have a very hard time voiding any warranty through the use of them and any 3rd party charger as long as they meet Australian electrical standards (open evse's or imported ones would be more of a grey area).
To be on the safe side we will always only ever return the car for servicing with the supplied evse in the boot.
I wonder if Nissan can tell through any diagnostic tools if a 3rd party charger has been used.... doubting it.

indeed just gave City Motors Holden a call. 9422 7777 Guy said "if your friend bought it for that price you can". so Perth LEAF owners, head to City Motors Holden for your 10A EVSE @ $350. Beauty about this unit is that it already had a 10A plug on the end. This is what is needed at Yanchep Shopping Centre as it has 2x 10A GPOs in the bollard. There is only one EV bay that the moment. www.plugshare.com/?location=39648But at they are the first shopping centre to officially support EVs.
