Hello, is there a discussion thread on servicing? I purchased my 2019 Leaf a couple of months ago and wondered exactly what needs to be checked and how often. I know I need to have the brakes looked at periodically as although I'm using the ePedal, I teach learner drivers and they use the normal brake. I hear some people say there's nothing else to check, but I want to be sure. My local Nissan dealer is happy to take my money of course.....

This forum doesn’t get much traffic anymore 🙂 its glory days were a few years ago, when the the small number of Gen 1 LEAF pioneers swapped war stories. Now that EVs are becoming more mainstream, there’s just not the same vibe here I’m afraid. I only drop in about once a month. To answer your question - I suggest you find a local mechanic who services EVs. Nissan won’t touch grey imports with a barge pole and their support of locally sold product is pretty bad and extremely expensive. EVs need very little maintenance. You keep the tyres inflated and washer bottle filled, and around every 2 years have a mechanic check the brake fluid, hydraulic/coolant systems, the air conditioner filters, and the brake pads (which hardly wear at all). I think that’s about it.

Welcome. Agreed, a local mechanic that has done a Certification on EVs would be best (there's one west of Brisbane, but there should be some in most major areas). Apart from the Battery and Motor, the rest of the car is still like any other car. So brakes etc won't be an issue for any mechanic. And yeah, I have heard Nissan just check the vehicle for damage and fill up the washer fluid.

...when the the small number of Gen 1 LEAF pioneers swapped war stories.... Those were such fun times, I miss meeting new owners and sharing the enthusiasm. The future of EVs felt exciting, even if it took a few extra years to gain traction. There's an Australian Leaf owners Facebook group which has more activity but also has more noise: www.facebook.com/groups/1695823577366861 - Not affiliated with this forum.
