Earlier this year the window washer jets stopped working on our Leaf. We could hear the pump whirring but no water coming out. The nozzles and hoses weren’t blocked and the washer bottle was full.
Nissan service said the washer pump was busted, they’d need to order a new one ($650) and it would take a few months to come from Japan. Months went by with no word on the pump arriving, phone calls not returned and emails ignored. Yeah there’s Covid and stuff, but after 6 months with nothing we got fed up and found a local mechanic which is getting into servicing EVs.
They fixed it without a hassle - the pump was fine, a diverter valve was busted. Fixed for $95 including labour. They were great! Friendly and honest and actually interested in fixing the problem rather than blowing us off.
So for anyone out there thinking that EVs are still so specialized that you are trapped with dealer servicing - the moral here is ring around!
Goodbye Nissan servicing, I don’t think we’ll need you again.

Wow... I can get a fire fighting pump with hoses and fittings for less than $650.

My local Nissan wouldn’t touch my grey import. Seems an interesting way to make money for them.
