Hi all - I’m new to this forum but an avid Leaf owner. Has anyone managed to link their Leaf up to also power their home? Ie via a bi-directional charger or V2H. I’m not that interested in vehicle to grid but am in vehicle to home.
I’ve spent hours researching and it looks like the only way I can do it is to order a bi-directional charger from the UK and then try and find a local sparky will to fit it. And Run risk of warranty not being valid for $10k but if kit.
I spoke to Jet Charge, EVSE etc. and they don’t stock and sounds like they don’t have much intention of doing any time soon.
Any thoughts or help much appreciated.

Hi David, welcome. The main person I've seen cover this is Andy from Unplugged EV YouTube channel. He had an Outlander PHEV, and knew someone else with one and a V2H setup. He covered it in this episode. It should work just as well in the Leaf because we also have CHAdeMO (and actually better because the Outlander has a very small battery). To me, after thinking about this, I’m not going to go for this concept.
It’s a very straightforward concept if you have solar. Simply substitute the DC from the array, with the DC from the vehicles battery, they are all, remarkably enough(or most), similar outputs. A good idea in concept, but here, if I charge my car from the sun, it’s ready to go. But work the idea.... I get a strikingly small amount for the power as a ‘feed-in’, somewhere around 4c per unit, but I then need my EV, I have to run the risk of having to pay 34c per unit to charge if/should I want it. The grey mystery is.... the system decided to take the power from me(as in my storage, in the car), overnight, or maybe just before I wanted to move. It’s a problem I don’t want to risk at the disgusting mark up price to charge from elsewhere to get on the road, As we know, distance travelled often shocks one.
Do I wish to have an empty car, I have to fill at such a mark up for being there to use ad-lib by a power company?
Upshot is, and easy way is to take the DC from the battery posts, feed into the solar invertor, and it will see mains properties, and begin to generate power for you. Bad side is the new helpful aspect of being charged to put power into the power grid that’s looming. It’s viable if you have an invertor that’s not grid power controlled.
Easier still, charge through the cars port, take power from the battery at around the 400VDC Mark.
The equipment is there, just ensure you protect yourself from HVDC, it bites hard.
