That's fantastic! So what are the biggest barriers here? Small population in a spread out land mass? Head-in-the-sand government?
Even Nissan Australia, after an initial big splash on the LEAF, seemed to take the "they don't want em so we won't push em" approach.

Even Nissan Australia, after an initial big splash on the LEAF, seemed to take the "they don't want em so we won't push em" approach. Ever thought about the worst case scenario where Nissan stops pushing? I had this thought where years from now when it's finally time to replace the batteries Nissan doesn't have the resources to service them or are going to charge something ridiculous to replace the entire pack just to make it worth their while. Would it be an option to find a pack from overseas from a wrecked LEAF (from a country where there are many LEAFs on the road and therefore a decent supply of parts) and trying to swap the pack yourself? There are technical manuals online for wreckers on how to dismantle a LEAF. Maybe by then there'll be aftermarket EV specialists who can supply refurbished batteries. Maybe if we're all still around we can attempt a group purchase and find a willing mechanic and electrician to do the swap. It was just an idle thought. My other car is a Honda I've had since new for 14 years (just passed 350,000kms!) and I'm hoping the LEAF will follow the same path!

Absolutely, but the issue with a second hand battery is that it will be similarly bad to whatever you are replacing. Also the Leaf, and most current cars, will have longevity issues due to onboard computers failing and causing errors....but hey that is life BTW if anyone wants it I have the workshop manual, it runs to a few thousand pages over 51 PDFs and covers all troubleshooting and repairs in detail.

Ooh yes please! It could come in useful! If it's no trouble, my email address is visible. Thanks! Well if we're lucky the current pack design might still be the same for another two or three years and if you pick a country with a cold climate (Norway?) you might be able to secure a pack that's still got some life left.
