Silly thing I just worked out out of curiosity: If your car comes with 15" wheels and you upgrade to 16" wheels, it'll skew the odometer by 15.95cm every revolution. After 20,000km it'll amount to a 41.6km difference. At 2.5c/km you'll save a whole $2.33!

Might be easier to just disconnect the vehicle speed sensor. Not that I would condone such an activity!

If I was renting a house in Wodonga I would be moving to Albury if I was intending to buy an EV.

It is just a stupid photo , it could be any car ? As I do mainly short trips and my drive way is about 2 km long, I think I will write to them stating that I am keeping a log and am deducting 4 km per trip for that. Apart from visible protest, I think tying Vicroads up in administrative knots would help since they are a quite retarded lot.

Just donated its a good cause . Pity we have such a thoughtless retarded govt supporting Vicroads who are idiots with too much money . Consumed by administration and red tape.
I dont trust that they would even hand the revenue to the Commonwealth . Moving from Wodonga to Albury has other downsides eg stupid green slip .

I dont trust that they would even hand the revenue to the Commonwealth . Moving from Wodonga to Albury has other downsides eg stupid green slip . NSW has introduced a RUC of 2.5c/km from 1 September 2021 for all zero emission EVs for which stamp duty has not been paid. At present, the duty exemption applies to vehicles under $68k, but it will apply to all EVs from 1 July 2027, or when 30% of all new passenger vehicle sales are EVs, whichever occurs first.

Both 2027 and 30% are a long way off. Predictions are difficult especially about the future.

Both 2027 and 30% are a long way off. Predictions are difficult especially about the future. It still means NSW is introducing a RUC, although it is at least a trade off for not paying any stamp duty, unlike in VIC. 30% is not a prediction but a trigger - whichever comes first. However, on current trajectory, 30% of all new passenger vehicle sales in NSW being zero emission by 2027 is actually quite likely, even though many people simply cannot conceive this will ever happen. I think they will be surprised.

What I meant was that 5 years is a long way off and a change of govt could have entirely new policy by then. I dont go much with aspirational policies set in the distant future such as zero carbon by 2050 since most of those in govt will be retired or dead by then.
I agree 30% EV on the roads in NSW in 5 years is quite achievable and 30% of new vehicles is very likely.

I have had a recent email from the lawyers who are taking on the Vic govt claiming only the Commonwealth can raise taxes. It is due to be hammered out in the High Court.

It is looking good for EV owners Australia wide with support also from the Australian trucking association. We may get all get a valentines present next year.

I have had a recent email from the lawyers who are taking on the Vic govt claiming only the Commonwealth can raise taxes. It is due to be hammered out in the High Court. The case will fail if that’s the argument. The States have long levied taxes, payroll tax is a long-running one, and NSW has just introduced a land tax. Perfectly lawful and constitutional to do so. However the States cannot levy income taxes, nor can they impose an excise on a good. However the RUC is not an excise because it is a tax on the use of a good, and not the good itself. And I predict the High Court will find it so, and throw out the challenge.

We won that one and we got our money back with interest Ha ha Have you actually got your money back? I got a letter months ago saying they would repay it but have received nothing other than registration bills. If they have not got the money then maybe they should just give us a credit. The Victorian treasurer ( Mr Backpfeifengesicht ) basically stated that he wasn't very happy with these arrogant EV drivers and will find another way to get them. Perhaps they are keeping the money until the next charge they will impose on EV drivers only.

Yes got money back its a messy mixture. You get a letter, use the QR code on that which takes you to an internet site to claim and then a cheque arrives in the mail which you take to the bank. Nice and clunky.
