Battery technology has been the missing link. When I bought my LEAF last year I always believed that by the time 5 years was up and the batteries were starting to fade, technology will come to the rescue. I still hold that view. Where there's a financial will, there is a way!

My electric motor bike is a case in point, David. Five years ago, it came with NickelMetalHydride batteries. On a hot day in Perh, I could barely get a range of 35kms out of them. I retro-fitted LithiumIons a couple of years ago, ( and saved 20kgs ) and now I can get 80kms range, no matter what the temperature. But the quoted article confuses a simple soul like me - a five fold increase in energy stored only doubles the range ? Not that I would be complaining - a range of 320kms on the LEAF would be handy . . . at times.
