I thought I'd let anyone on the forum know after 5 years of leaf ownership we're about to list our Silver Leaf for sale on Carsales. It's been an awsome car, but I'm only preaching to the choir so I'll keep it short and sweet. Also don't worry... We're keeping it electric and moving into the Bmw i3 bev...
Cheers

The Leaf only just works for me too, but as long as it does , I'm hanging on to it. I would love the range of the I3 but I don't really like the styling and I couldn't afford it. Apparently it's awesome to drive. End of an era.

I wish I had the choice on charging standards...type 1 or 2. That option wasn't there and it looked like it was going to be a big deal to change it from type one.... We went the easy path and type one it is... Type 2 makes so much sense though for Australia. We've owned a Leaf for pretty much 5 years now, this is our second one and absolutely love them. When we left Canada we bought this one almost straight away in Oz... Sad to see it when it does go but I'm looking forward to the new tech and driving experience with the i3

Nice to have met you today, and looking forward to giving your Leaf a new home with us very soon So that makes this a brief hello post then - thanks to yourself and others who have put so much great info here for us potential and soon-to-be Leaf owners to use for obsessive research purposes! Welcome to the forum, Alison. Hope you enjoy your LEAF I'm sure I will thanks Phoebe (lovely name - you share it with my 9yo daughter). Collected the Leaf today, making the trip down the mountains and up the Southern Highlands foothills with 3 bars remaining. Very impressive car, currently sitting on charge next to the VW Polo TDI that is now pushed a rung down our car tree, but will still be retained for longer journeys I think. It has served us well for 11 years at 4.9L/100km, some happily on B100 biodiesel when I could source it. But now feels like an absolute rattly dinosaur. Driveway under construction for easier charging access, then next task is to expand the PV array for daytime excess charging, well once the useless electricity company installs our net meter anyway. Lots to do, but love that the Leaf is going to be an integral part of our lifestyle now.

Nothing against the lovely blokes on this forum, but great to hear from a woman Leaf driver. Welcome. You mentioned a 9-year-old daughter. When we got the Leaf, my kids poo-poo'd it, but now like to mention it to their friends and generally show it off.

Yes we took the kids for a test-drive in it, and now she asks questions like "so are all the other cars putting out yucky fumes?" We dropped a friend home after school yesterday and she said "do you hear how quiet it is?!" Happily breeding little environmentalists here (sons 3 and 6 as well) - they already talk up our automated passive-solar strawbale house every chance they get. Oh look, I just did too! I'm just happy to have what appears to be a good forum here for great discussions with people that care about our planet, irrespective of gender or any other group in society we might be in. Plus I'll happily hold my own in the technical discussions with anyone

When we test drove the Leaf, my kids (11 at the time) absolutely pestered me to get it and then hassled me every second day asking if we'd made a decision yet or not! They were so excited when we told them we would do it.

Thanks - we are way back down in the foothills, only just out of Sydney near Picton. The Leaf is proving perfect for school runs, shopping, etc., and is often charged twice a day as we keep it at 80%. It's pretty hilly here so getting anywhere even close and back again eats up about 20% of the battery. Still very manageable as long as we plan it out, and it forces us to remove silly detours and consolidate trips. The family ICE it has pretty much replaced is looking lonely waiting for our next caravaning trip or whenever we really need 7 seats. I can't wait to sit down and work out how much diesel we have saved, although the first electricity bill is going to be a killer as we have just lost our premium FIT too

Our yearly consumption is stable at around 5.3 MWh (4 bed house, family of 5, no gas) since we moved in in 2012. That's going to take quite a hit from our first EV coming online, so the diesel offset figures are going to need to be right in front of us when that bill arrives.

Mine increased by 2.2MWh per year (calculated at the meter). That figure is very close to the 15,000km driving per year (15,000km * 0.13kWh/km) = 2MWh. I paid 14ish cents per kWh (always charged at off-peak), which is 300 bucks per year. When I had my Corolla, I paid more than 1,500 buck per year in fuel. Not to mention time wasted in petrol station. I didn't miss that a single bit .

Thought someone might spot that No it's from a London planetree - we have several on our property currently shedding. Decided to leave it on the tyre for effect. The tree behind the shed is European Ash. Lovely, except deadly to sheep and goats as we discovered too late. The horse is fine!.

Not to mention time wasted in petrol station. I didn't miss that a single bit . If I am to believe Origin's bill, my daily usage this time last year was 14.1 kWh, while this quarter it is 14.56 kWh. Pretty happy with that since we have added the Leaf as our first EV to the mix back in Feb. Being able to control the EVSE power to only activate when solar starts exporting, and our EVolution charger's 6A setting to sit nicely under the 3kW solar system's curve has made all the difference as last quarter's bill was higher. It is worth noting that in the same time period we have also changed from gross to net metering, hence my skepticism about the direct comparison. We have just sold the 'spare' ICE we were still using at times, so we are about to go down to just the Leaf and Santa Fe. They will both be in use most days depending on who is going where and who will be at home to let the Leaf soak up the solar output.
