For diehards the RAV4 and Kia are not considered 4WD.
I have posted the same thread in the 4x4Earth forum and I must have thrown the cat among the pigeons! In 12 hours there were 38 replies (2 were mine though) and it is still running hot.

Can't have a real 4wd without pistons I guess.

Another reminder for myself that any product (including vehicle) has emotional attachment to it. Aaaah, the beauty of human psychology. Then there are more than 7 billion of us. We're totally stuffed!

I have posted the same thread in the 4x4Earth forum and I must have thrown the cat among the pigeons! In 12 hours there were 38 replies (2 were mine though) and it is still running hot. I skimmed through that thread and some of the replies are terribly clueless. Here are some examples: - Steve, that article is based on a Nissan Leaf. They are tiny and make a Yaris look like a Huge Monster, they have a range of about 120km. Even so, it's carbon emissions are still worse than a Commodore in Victoria.
- EV are the worst for carbon foot print, raw materials for the battery comes from Africa with the worst environmental controls on the planet, then shipped to Europe for manufacture of battery, then to Asia and the car manufacturer then all over the world to the end user and on top of all that the battery has a life of 10 years max.
- Electric cars charged with and manufactured with coal powered power stations have worse emissions than a modern unleaded vehicle . All it does is shift the emissions away from the city out to the country were the power station is .
I've had arguments with people like that in the past and you can't change their minds. I suppose that makes me a hypocrite in a way, but at least I can back my claims up with facts! Not going to get myself involved this time, but at least that forum has a few pro-EV members.

There are instances in the past for myself when I just have to reign my tongue. Trying to win the argument (regardless the fact) when one already make their mind is futile.

The best fossil fuel 4WD is a 2 stroke. Usually a old 3 cylinder Suzuki. They can travel up the steepest hills and do not have the problem of tipping engine oil out of their sumps and destroying the engine. An electric 4WD also would not have this problem but would most likely be more powerful.
