Just got a call from the AGL Electric Car Team, it seems the reason why no bills have been generated is because the sub-metre installed is not sending it's reading to AGL so a technician will come by and perform a manual read and also check why the metre is not sending the reads.
So there you go, it might be a bit of a setup error or faulty transmission which is occurring.

I did get my last bill from AGL, which they still read manually. With my solar panel and battery system working well, it was $13 in credit and this time they sent me a cheque for that amount. That included charging my LEAF They are paying me to charge my LEAF

Just a quick update, I had the installers came by and checked out the sub-metre that was installed. It appears that the antenna was not fully plugged into the on-board modem so it didn't have a signal to send the reads off to AGL.
Now that's been rectified, I will expect a bill in the next few days.
I worked out that based on the electricity usage, I've saved about $20 by being on the electric car plan. It was always going to be a marginal financial benefit, the real benefit from my perspective was that AGL paid for a dedicated circuit install, the technician also confirmed that 6mm wires were used which means all I need to do is to upgrade to a 32A circuit breaker if I want to upgrade the charging rate to 6.6kw sometime down the track.

Hi Kim, The hardware install itself is all going fine. Charging happily daily. Billing and accounts on the other hand has been a bit strange, I haven't seen an electricity bill since April and my account is sitting in credit. No metre reading has occurred. I still think AGL is somehow not able to figure out how to charge the plan. Hi Dave, I understand the meter doesn't cost you anything, but the 32Amp (6mm) circuit does. How much did the circuit end up costing, and how far does yours go? Were there any issues with it, like going between buildings? If the installation cost is low enough it may be worth it just for the 32 Amp circuit. Given it's only a 12 month commitment, and they use green power.

I didn't pay anything for the install. AGL footed the bill for the electrician's install. I requested for a 15amp outlet as at the time all I had was the EVSE that came with the Leaf. I have subsequently purchased an EVSE which is capable of 3.3kw charging rather than the 2.4kw from the standard Leaf EVSE.

Wow that's quite good. Were there any issues with it, like going between buildings, or going a long way? Do you think they would do it for free in most circumstances?

Mine was a relatively straight forward install. I live in a weatherboard house and the sub-metre was about 20m away from the main board. The fuse board and house wiring was all updated within the last 5 years. So I guess my install was as simple as it came. I have a friend who asked for AGL for a similar install and the quote came to approx. $3k due to extra work required to update the circuit board and earthing. He has done it in the end had he has a Model X and the faster home charging definitely was needed.

I had another look at the AGL plan today because I'm planning to switch providers to AGL. It would still be very marginal for me dollar-wise (using the online AGL calculator, at 25 km/day in a LEAF it suggests an ordinary plan might work better, but at 27 km/day which is what we do, it suggests the electric car plan!) but the attraction would be having our old-school meters upgraded for free so that we could move to TOU tariff if we wanted to, and also be ready for putting in solar panels and a battery (maybe next year).
However we have 3 phase power, so maybe upgrading 3 meters and putting in a fourth one just for the LEAF would not count as a "standard" install and it wouldn't be free. Our garage and studio is a "outbuilding" with its own sub-board, so they might just install the LEAF meter there and not upgrade the main board? If you sign up for the plan they have to come out and check all this stuff anyway and if they can't do it for free, you are entitled to cancel the plan at no cost. So nothing to lose?
Dave - in the Ts & Cs for this plan, it says that you will not see a separate reading or dollar amount on your bill for the car charging meter. It says they net off the electricity used for car charging with your total consumption and that's all you see on the bill.

It says they net off the electricity used for car charging with your total consumption and that's all you see on the bill. AGL will send an electrician to quote for the amount of work required. If the price is not agreeable, then you can walk away and continue as before. Regarding the bills, due to the faulty the sub-metre modem, AGL only recently started getting my meter reads. So they are in the process of calculating a bill since I started on my Electric Car plan. So I guess I haven't actually seen an actual Electric Car plan bill yet.

I am looking at signing up for this once I look over my current costs for me through my provider now (Origin). I have solar but no battery storage and I drive a lot.... 91,000 Km’s since I’ve bought my i3. I’m also interested in the EVSE station, can anyone comment on if this is a good deal for $799 + install fees? Would it be cheaper for me to buy a station online and pay a private installer?

The hardware has been going great. I don't have any opinion on the Delta charger that AGL is selling as I don't know much about them. I have heard they're ok from other EV owners. It's well price though I must say as many 7kw capable chargers often cost over $1k. The billing side of things is a whole other matter. I still haven't received a bill from AGL since October last year because I think their billing department is struggling to reconcile the usage and feed in from my solar as I did have a communications error with my sub-metre for a few months. Just a side note regarding a bit of mind games/psychology that happens sometimes for me is a reluctance to charge during the day as it eats into my 'solar feed-in tariff' and postponing charging till the sun sets because 'I'll be paying $1/day regardless of whether I charge or not mentality'. It doesn't happen a lot because I normally get home around 6:30pm-7pm at which time solar generation is negligible but every so often if I get home in the afternoon and the solar panels are still generating a decent amount, I have found myself delaying charging till after sun set. Perhaps this is what AGL was wanting to achieve? Cheap electricity during high demand from my solar panels in exchange for relatively cheap off-peak electricity in the evenings from their generators (mind you the power used to charge the EV is supposed to be carbon offset from AGL's future forests program).

dholms If you drive alot, I would recommend signing up to the AGL plan, my financial advantage is marginal based on my 12,000Km/yr average and my regular electricity rates from AGL. I worked out that over the process of a year, I'm ahead by around $20 by signing up to the plan. My main reason for going down this path was to get a free install of the dedicated circuit which would have saved me at least $350-$400 in electrician fees. It was confirmed by the electrician that he used a thicker gauge of wire which will be able to handle 32Amps even though I only have a 15Amp outlet at the moment. This means when we do get an EV capable of faster charging rates, we'll just need to upgrade the circuit breaker and hardwire a charger on the other end (either a 7.6Kw J1772 or a Telsa charger) most likely a 7.6Kw J1772 and I'll get a separate J1772 to Tesla adapter if we end up getting a tesla so both the Leaf and the new EV can both be charged.

Thanks for your input In relation to the FiT how did you end up finding out what the rate was in Victoria? As I am in QLD and would be good to find that out and compare it to my current FiT w/ Origin. As for the EVSE AGL supplied, does anyone else have any input on whether it’s a good buy compared to privately installing and purchasing one? stewartm

As for the EVSE AGL supplied, does anyone else have any input on whether it’s a good buy compared to privately installing and purchasing one? stewartm The following info is applicable in Vic only. Initially when I signed up, the legal minimum solar feed-in tariff by any retailer with more than 5000 customers was 5c/kw. The EV plan was paying 10c as a feed in tariff which suited me quite well (I was not aware of this additional benefit till after I signed up). Since July 1st 2017, the legal minimum for solar feed in tariff is now 11.3c/kwh as determined by the Victorian productivity commission. This is the rate that I am getting. As far as i know, most retailers are sticking by this rate and very few are offering any feed in tariff higher than the legal minimum in Victoria (I know Click Energy does but their price/KWh is quite high in comparison to AGL). Currently I pay a around 20c/kwh after applicable usage discounts from AGL and it's not a time of use plan, my daily supply charge is $1.21. They are all GST inclusive.

Yeah so it looks like I am paying about 24.51c/kW right now with Origin, however I still have the Queensland Government Solar Bonus Scheme applied which is a FiT of about 50.00c/kW.
I've read all the FAQ's about this and things that will make me ineligible for continuing to get this high rate; such as changing my name on the invoice/account or cancelling my supply through a provider completely. It isn't 100% clear that if I switch companies I will keep this Queensland Government Solar Bonus Scheme rate thought :/
I can't imagine they would pull that rate from me if I was to switch suppliers but.
If I can get a cheaper kW/hr rate with AGL it seems I'll go that way. The question still remains is the Delta charging station with the money and how much would the install fee for it be, as it says that that cost is to be paid by me..

You can change electricity retailers in Queensland without giving up your 44 cent bonus solar feed-in tariff - see www.dews.qld.gov.au/electricity/solar/installing/benefits/solar-bonus-scheme. It's implicit in the statement "ensure that the name on your account doesn't change if you change to another retailer" As well as owning a Leaf, I run an electricity comparison service called WATTever that will show you all publically available residential electricity plans Australia wide including the Energex electricity network in SE QLD. Our service also values your solar and includes solar premium Feed-in Tariffs like the Queensland 44 cents so you can get a complete estimate including both your usage and solar generation. We don't explicitly include the $1 per day AGL EV plan as they don't list it with the associated consumption rates on their web site. It may be that you can select any plan - AGL Savers, Set and Forget etc and then just pay $1 per day on top of that. If anyone here can confirm that I'd be happy to include that somewhere in our electricity comparison service. Disclaimer: WATTever is a commercial service and we do receive a referral fee if you switch with us through to a partner retailer. In Queensland currently our only partner retailer is Energy Locals. We have no financial relationship with AGL.

If you are curious, I would recommend giving AGL a call and they will redirect your call to the 'electric car team' in the AGL solar department. From what I understand it's a very small team due to the niche market size. They offer a no obligation quote service where they make an appointment with their contractor electrician (Active Stream in Vic, not sure who in Qld) to come visit, take photos and measurements and get back to you with a quote. An example of my friend with the Tesla, he got the quote for the works and thought it was too much and then got his own electrician to install the wiring required at about 60% of the original quote and then AGL sent the electrician to just hook up the sub-metre which was of course free of charge to the customer.

I locked in a 10 year contract with AGL till 2021 @ 0.54c/kWh solar feed in. I tend not to use power of a day with this. Last quarter bill was ~$190 I then use similar to Liz, night tariff on my EVSE, so about 17c/kWh. Charge once a week as work is only about 8km trip.

They also offered a 12% discount on direct debit payment on 26c.kWh single rate tariff. So far it looks like I'm going to go ahead with it, but I am still looking for some advice as to go with their Delta EVSE or purchase my own. Anyone have any suggestions for a 2015 i3?

So you can charge an 85 Kw expensive hungry Tesla for $1 a day (which will save you money) but you must have 2 meters and $2 dollars a day to charge 2 Cheaper more power efficient 25KW LEAFs (which will cost you more) but requires less power. Is that fair?

The AGL offer is only viable for people not getting a decent feed-in tariff. They won't allow a separate electricity connection just for the EV, consequently any daytime charging would reduce the FiT income which in my case is significant.

I think the $ savings for us will be greater now that we have a Model S. We went to Marysville on a day trip last weekend and didn't really think much about it when I got home, just plugged in as I normally do. It took 58KWh of power to charge back up to 80%. It would have cost approx. $12 in electricity at my regular rate, however due to the AGL plan, it was capped at $1 for that day.
Our kilowatt consumption has definitely increased since our Model S ownership for 2 reasons. 1, The car is heavier, more powerful and less efficient compared with the Leaf and 2, we are starting to take it on more day trips because it has the range so a lot of the Kms has shifted from our ICE wagon to the Model S.
