I went on a test drive in Brisbane on the weekend, amazing experience. I was thinking as an EV advocate, it was an experience to try out, after seeing and sitting in a few, but never having driven one. So sad that even the base Model S starts from about 140K on road. Apparently a price rise is on the way in a few weeks too, so if we made a deposit now it would lock in the current pricing. Nice to dream. Nice to dream. Not surprising there'll be a price rise - the AUD has somewhat collapsed against USD since Tesla opened their stores here. Nice recounting of your test drive too, although I reckon in Oz we cannot call the front storage a "frunk", that is simply wrong, it has to be called a "froot". Model S is a brilliant car, but even if I had the money, $140k is way beyond what I would ever want to spend on a vehicle.

Hmmm, good plan, convert your family to EVs. I've been trying, but so far, only my cousin Roslyn who lives in Seattle has gone the EV route (quite independently of me) - she and her husband own a Model S, Model X, Prius, and a Jeep. Four cars for two people seems a little excessive. Like almost every Model S owner I've met, she works in IT. As to the Model 3 deposit, it would be fun to have a deposit down just to dream a little, but my more sensible side tells me that putting (refundable) money on a car with unknown specs and and an unknown price and an unknown delivery date of 2+ years is a bit of a reach for me.

As to the Model 3 deposit, it would be fun to have a deposit down just to dream a little, but my more sensible side tells me that putting (refundable) money on a car with unknown specs and and an unknown price and an unknown delivery date of 2+ years is a bit of a reach for me. My perspective is this... I am taking $1500 out of my zero-interest bank account and putting into Tesla's zero-interest bank account. If an EV comes along within the next 2 years that can replace my remaining ICE and beats the Model 3 in price, performance, capability, etc. then I can withdraw my $1500 from Tesla and buy that instead. And if not, I have preserved my position in the Tesla queue. So nothing to lose (unless Tesla goes bust in the next 2 years - unlikely). Also I'd like to inflate the reservation numbers so that Tesla will boast about them
