I'm looking at the updated outlander PHEV to replace the lancer. (most of those cars will fail my "does the car cost more than my annual salary test", so I strike them off as I can't afford them)

what about the Hyundai Ioniq ? is that plug in ? The SMH article didn't say (just said "hybrid") but a quick web search indicates that it will be released in hybrid, PHEV and BEV models. More will be announced at the Detroit motor show next week. Which models Oz will get is quite another matter, though. But one to keep an eye on.

Some more detail on the Ioniq - the hybrid version will go on sale in Australia in the third quarter of this year – likely to be priced under $35000. A plug-in version is also possible here and the all-electric version will be released in Korea in November. They will use LiIon polymer batteries. The Korean press launch is in 2 days (21 Jan) where we will find out more but full details will not be revealed until the global public launch at the Geneva and New York motor show in March.
