The warning light is back and my usual fix by logging in and out of CarWings doesn't work. I am now beginning to suspect the 4 year old battery. I'll get it changed at the next service and see if that fixes things, as it seems the 3G TCU needs more power than the old 2G one. The trip data gets sent ok because maybe after you start the car the battery begins charging and everything works again.

Finally resolved my warning light and connection problems with CarWings. The culprit was indeed the 12 volt battery. New battery and everything is working fine. I can get charge status, no warning lights. The new telematics unit uses so much power. The 12 volt battery I had wasn't dead by any means but was staying at about half of its normal capacity. It still would have started an ICE car fine. So any warning lights, connection problems etc, Check your 12 volt battery! I think a deep cycle or lithium ion replacement 12 volt may be better for the Leaf. Happy to have everything working again.

I installed a spiral cell, D51R optima battery about 12 months back. Resolved a number of strange issues. Was recommended in the US leaf forum.
