Hi all. I am new to the forum and do not own a Leaf as yet but would very much like to. We have been looking at them and have done a drive - loved it! Nissan seem to have them at $3990 at the moment and don't seem keen to go lower than that price. That seems quite a lot higher than they were earlier in the year. Colour choice seems limited to red and black and we were just told the battery warranty is 3 years. Can anyone give me any feedback on whether that price is reasonable and also on the battery warranty? Thanks.

Hi Evolutionary, Welcome to the forum. You might want to shop around at other Nissan dealers, there are prices listed on Carsales for around $35k. Just bear in mind the "new" cars are over three years old and a few recent owners have noticed their batteries have lost some capacity prematurely due to age. One owner even had sun damaged parts replaced before taking delivery. If you're still comfortable with that and can deal with a car that can realistically do about 120km tops then they're still good cars. Still loving mine after two years. The battery warranty is actually five years, 100,000kms but it's not like overseas where you get a new battery if it drops below 27.5% capacity. Here they will just swap out some cells to bring it back over that amount: ozleaf.proboards.com/thread/343/free-extended-battery-coverage

Thanks for all that info, Feng! We are just off to look at a couple at around that price so hopefully we will soon be Leaf owners!

For the battery degrade, it may depend on the location.
I am in Melbourne. I had my car for 1 year and I am not aware of any degrade yet. I drive it to work 55km everyday and it has done more than 20,000 km already.
My car didn't have any damages on delivery except there are lots of mirco-scatches that possibly put on by the paint protection from the dealer!
I guess the Leaf are handled properly in Melbourne.

Good luck with the purchase. I really wanted a black one. It was mine where they replaced the sun-damaged window trim. My battery seems fine so far. Car with new trim looks fine now. Delivery took about 8 weeks. I'm in Sydney but purchased from Bradley Loscher at Lennock Nissan in Canberra because they had the price of 35k and Sydney dealers weren't interested in matching it. Delivery was only a few hundered so I ended up ahead. Had no problems with first service at Sydney dealer despite purchasing elsewhere. I def recommend Bradley. PM me if you want his number.

Oh. The only issue was one scratch in the rear spoiler and one on the left passenger door. The second one polished off. And there was some sort of protective film remnants on the wheels. I had to clean if off with eucalyptus oil. Perfect now.

Colour choice seems limited to red and black Blue and white are definitely sold out, silver is still showing on the Nissan website as being available but maybe they haven't updated it. Everyone here pretty much adores their Leaf, so you won't get much push-back

Hi again everyone! Thank you for all the feedback. I guess I am no longer an EV Tyre Kicker! Yesterday we bought a beautiful blue Leaf in Sydney for $34k! Very exciting! We will get it at the end of the week. No doubt I will be on the forum more in the future for advice from all you experienced Leafers/ Leafies. (not sure of the correct term!)
Next for a home charger I guess and we are also looking into seat covers as we are a little concerned about the pale upholstery. We did get fabric treatment done though so that may be all it needs. Also the window trims were looking as though they had some sun-damage so they are checking them for us and said they will replace if necessary. Thank you Cachexian. Any advice on the above is welcome. Nice to be an EV owner!

Well done! A dedicated 15amp power point will let you charge your LEAF while you work out which other charger you need, if any. I don't travel far or often so 15amp charging fulfills all my needs.

Nice to be an EV owner! Congrats! You won't regret it. Where did you get a blue one from? Onsite dealer stock? Blue sold out from the Nissan warehouse some months ago. I don't have a home charger - I simply installed a 15A dedicated socket in the garage, and I only use the EVSE supplied with the car. We have never needed to charge offsite, since we've never driven it more than 100 km in a day, always coming back home. In fact we now just leave the EVSE plugged in at home and drive around without it in the boot. Regarding the upholstery, I think it is made of recycled soft drink bottles. We have 2 kids, and even 1 year down the track, the upholstery looks great and we never had it treated. The few times it has been marked it has easily come clean with a wipe. Look forward to your first reports once you have the Leaf in your driveway!

The OEM EVSE costs over $3000 so if you're going to use it every day you might want to be careful with it. A Holden Volt EVSE costs around $350 RRP and does more or less the same thing. If you want to charge in about six hours instead of eight from completely flat then you'll need to install a higher powered EVSE.

Congrats on your purchase! I have bought the Jaycar 15amp to 10amp adaptor and use the OEM EVSE plugged in at home. I also bought the Holden Volt EVSE from Holden in Ashfield (they ordered it from Melbourne and it took a day to arrive) and that lives in the boot with a 20m extension lead in case of emergency. I've charged away from home twice. Both times when I was at a friend's house in Blaxland. Just a top up to make sure that I got home no problems although GOM said I would make it.
I'll probably install a 15amp power point and get a 15amp EVSEupgrade EVSE later this year.
I have ordered and am waiting for custom fake leather seat covers from JC seat covers in UK. They should arrive Friday. The kids won't stop kicking the backs of the seats so I'm covering them with the new seat covers. Will post photos when I've installed them.

If you do want to get the JC seat covers, let me know. I've got the colour sample swatches and can send them to you.

Must test that out.

G4, Any trouble with the EVSEupgrade? Seemed like a good option to me. Good email service from EVSEupgrade. Can't get any email reply from clipper creek.
Paper clips are at least made of metal and should therefore be expected to be conductive. Besides the upgraded EVSE can be user programmed to charge at any amperage as far as I ca work out. I suspect that would take a little more than a paper clip. Perhaps two?

EVSEupgarde instructions say put paperclip in the plug and plug cable into the wall. evseupgrade.com/evse-programming-g2.pdf Which regardless of how many people you say haven't died form these. you can't convince me that it doesn't increase the risk.

Can't get any email reply from clipper creek. Evolutionary, enjoy your Leaf , congrats. Hmmm, I found Clipper Creek communications very prompt (8 mths ago) and I can recommend their 15A EVSE (ECS-15). I also find the shorter charging time of the 15A quite handy compared with the 10A (15A plug) Nissan unit. Cachexian, what colour fabric did you end up choosing from JC seat covers? I'm very happy and can recommend the JC covers, but maybe my kids are messier than your average kids (?) Cheers

Since EVSEupgrade's EVSE is the Panasonic EVSE that Mitsubishi and Nissan use. The cable has curled all by itself, one day it may break. The original Mitsu EVSE cable has curled the most.
The 15 Amp clipper creek is also starting to curl.
the least curl may be the charge amps EVSE. Have to ask Acmotor on the AEVA forums about this.

Well, the little Blue leaf is in the garage!! We have had it nearly a week and loving it. Getting a bit of 'range anxiety' on longer journeys e.g.. Newport to Burwood to Ultimo to St Peters to Newport. Charged for 40 mins at Stockland Cammeray on the way home as I did not want to get too low.
Still working out what EVSE unit to get, if any. The E-station from WA seems like a good option. Can we use the Clipper Creek one from the US in Australia?
Thank you, cachexion, for the offer of the JC colour samples. I'll get in touch if we need them.
Loving the quiet ride! Just need to get to know the car a bit better re range and how to drive it most efficiently!

the clipper creek ones with are listed as international are fine to use in Australia expect they don't have Australian certification. Main ramification is it makes them illegal to sell, in the country. there may also be other issues with insurance etc..

I called E station yesterday. Their basic home unit sells for $1300 and has to be hard-wired to 32amp circuit.
