I am doing this trip in my week old LEAF to attend a meeting tomorrow morning at 10am in Gympie. But that is just an excuse to go for a distance drive. I stopped at Moorooka Nissan (where I got the LEAF) and chatted to the staff and picked up a L2 charge and a coffee. Then down the road apiece to Tritium who make Veefil charging stations for a chin wag about the technology and an 80% charge. I got into Nambour Forest Glen general store and arranged to hang around for a full charge (L2). This will get me to Gympie. Attachments:

Thanks. Charge should be finished by 10pm. It is less than 80kms so I could finish tonight and stay over in Gympie but plan 'A' at this time is to head off at first light tomorrow.

Enjoy the range whilst you have it. Unless I take back roads at 60-70 I can't make Brisbane now safely. Need a chademo near Caboolture and one on the sunny coast.

With a dose of 'pushonitis' (and wanting to drive the new toy again:-), I left Forest Glen around 10:30pm and arrived at Nelson Reserve, Gympie with 20kms left in the tank. Plugshare informed me there was public 240v available at the reserve, so I checked it out before heading north several kms to Chatsworth to a free camping spot I have used before.
At 6am on Wednesday morning (I am an early riser) I drove back into town and plugged in for 3 hours of L1, my thanks to the kindly council of Gympie. During the meeting at the Amateur Radio Club there was great interest in the LEAF as the members are all tech-head nerds like myself. I was amazed that none of them were familiar with the LEAF and that, except for the quiet and zippy performance, it was equal to similar sized gas cars.
I have charged up overnight and soon will be heading back to Nambour (Forest Glen) where I will sit on the L2 station before continuing on to Brisbane BMW for a quickie and back to Beaudesert.

Forest Glen Organic supermarket provided 4hrs of 3.3hW which topped me up to get to Brisbane. I had planned to fast charge at BMW to check out a different fast charging option but I was not going to get there till after 5.30pm and did not want to take a chance or have someone perhaps wait up for me.
So I phoned ahead to Marcelo at Tritium and they told me the gate would be open till 7.30. That all went as planned (except for the #@%& city traffic) and I was back on the farm by 8.30. I stopped near Browns Plains for a Subway, my favourite 'on the road' tucker.
All in all it went as planned. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again and more so if/when there is a fast charger in or near the Sunshine Coast. This trip was three legs each about 100kms. I would not plan any future trips with legs longer than that unless I also planned interim emergency arrangements.

Just to finish off, here's a photo of the LEAF replenishing the batteries after the trip.

Dont mean to be negative Jeff, but enjoy it while its fresh. We have had ours two years and 21000km. When we first got it, Metro Nissan Brisbane was an easy run for service. Last trip back we didnt make it and had to stop at friends at Beerwah and use their power to top up. I did a Carwings calculation this morning, and it said there was no way on full charge, 11/12 capacity bars, that we could make it for a service. I have written to Nissan to say it is no longer acceptable. At no time did we expect that in ~20,000 km we would have lost a true third of our range. Forget the capacity of 11/12, when we first started and for the first year, I kept pics of the fully charged display, we had 180km+ range indicated. Yes I know thats not real, but a comparison. Now with a full charge its ~125km. Car is garaged most of the time, climate on the sunshine coast is mild, not hot or cold. Charging has been to 80% most of the time, and always discharge to ~1/3 before recharge, as per book. Im sorry Nissan, but one of two things, this car is faulty, or your advertising and/or specifications are false. Either option you need to fix. Take a LEAF from VW and admit the issues. Very disappointing.

I gave an EVSE to springers solar at Lawton. Gabz is sending me some more charging cables. So you should be able to make it with a short top up.
