After using the stock EVSE for a few months we figured that charging at 10A was good enough so I took the cheapskate option and bought the Volt EVSE for $368. Charged the car fully last night without problems. Thanks for the bargain GM! Phoenix Holden manage to quote $369.25 They seem to be the only independent Holden Volt dealer in Perth Others belong to the AHG Group Melville Holden quoted $415 Shacks Holden quoted $425

i3 n Brian's fbox seems that the module replaced by Patrick from e-station is a 32 amp one. as the i3 pulls 20 amps when set to "reduced" mode
Brian noticed that the plug was getting warm.
thanks Brian for the test.

charge-amps.com/spark/this is the latest compact, no brick required, portable 16A EVSE. I just might order one, now that I'm getting rid of the volt and i3 locks the charge coupler (CC) in place. Previously I was concerned about the CC being disconnected and it has been done before at the Barlee St location. 4700 SEK

that e-station box is starting to sound like a hazard.
the charge amps unit is only rated to 40degree c do you think that'll be an issue ? nice to see it has CE EMC rating makes it easier to get it certified in Australia.

You meant LEAF draws 16.994 amp? This is around 4kW (depends on your voltage). LEAF only has a 3.3kW charger.

you can see from the pictures that this is the case. the Red overload LED comes on. ozleaf.proboards.com/attachment/download/53And Brian can also vouch for this. one of the reasons I posted *** Supercharging *** the clipper creek 15A EVSE seems the safest.

3.3kw is probably what is is guaranteed to do, not its only capability

Interesting in my french Leaf, the nissan evse is 15amp as the Eu sockets are 16 amps. It charges faster than the oz one I did notice on 230 volts. I ended up putting on a 20 clipper creek hard wired for home on a 25 amp breaker. It seemed no faster than the nissan one. I also carried a menekkes to j1772 to use the free renault charge points. One standard would be great!

That's interesting. The Nissan EVSE that is supplied in Japan is 15 amps too. We have a second-hand Japanese import vehicle market here in NZ, and so Leafs come in and sold second hand here for around NZ$25,000, include the Japanse-market 15 amp EVSE 'bricks'. (The NZ-new-via-Australia Leafs are of course 10 amp with the 15 amp plug.)

chickens have come home to roost after 3 years. seems that wiring in Brian's unit has burnt out. all that LEAF "supercharging" has taken its toll on the wiring. but the hardware of the box is unaffected.

the mennekes bollard manufacturers will be happy with Tesla's Car Mennekes socket. it breathes some life back into the Car Mennekes segment. some people in Perth were wondering why then don't standardise on j1772. the demo i3 has Car Mennekes socket. forums.aeva.asn.au/bmw-i3-review_topic3957_page2.htmlMennekes is the Beta - better standard, preferred by Prof Thomas Braunl J1772 is the VHS

The 15 amp EVSE unit that I saw that had been imported along with a Japanese imported Leaf looked looked just like (as far as my memory goes) our EVSEs (other than the fact it had 15 amp (or possibly 3.3kW) written on it) so probably was made by Panasonic. Someone (presumably the importer) had put on an NZ plug on it. Sorry but it was owned by someone from up North, and I don't know any local owners who have Japanese imported Leafs, so I'm not much help with pictures.

I've been pretty happy with the Clipper Creek 15A EVSE (ECS-20 www.clippercreek.com/store/product/ecs-1520-international-plug-connected-230v-charging-25-cord/ ). I drive Geelong to Melb SE suburbs (95 km one-way), then within 4.5 hrs charge on the CC, I can return to Geelong. Alternatively, if I need a quicker turn around, I drop into Swinburne for a fast charge to 80% then last 20% topped up with the CC at my Melb destination (via a 15A socket). I chose the CC unit due to its 15A charging capacity (compared with the 10A Nissan EVSE) and its portability compared with most other 15A EVSEs, but the Aerovironment Turbocord looks like an interesting alternative ( evsolutions.avinc.com/turbocord ) as does the Spark EVSE mentioned earlier. However, as mentioned by gabzimiev, the CC unit (and none of these other units mentioned) have Aust certification at this stage. The CC ECS-20 was AUD $750 delivered with a holster & 15A AU plug.

The CC ECS-20 was AUD $750 delivered with a holster & 15A AU plug. how long ago was that the US AUD dollar has tanked... I was thinking about bring them in USA stuff costs more to certify of euro stuff, something about Australia can reuse euro test reports but not USA ones. but it wasn't anywhere near $750 a unit from memory.

Just had an e-station installed at my residence in Brisbane. Got the electricians to install it on a dedicated 32amp circuit that I'm getting put on tariff 31(here's hoping). Did it this way for safety first and future proofing second. Until Energex is sorted, which could be up to 4 weeks, it's on my main supply which is fed by 6.24kW solar during the day. Guys did a tidy job and would be happy to recommend the company if anyone is interested let me know. Also if anyone in the Brisbane Western suburbs wants to take a look or charge up let me know as I'm happy to help a fellow EV'r.
