Same for me, I wanted to test drive at Rockdale but got the same response. Are you absolutely sure they have a LEAF mechanic? It wouldn't surprise me if they said they'll service it even though they don't.
I won't start a new thread and will just ask here: Who's up for coffee? If not at the North Strathfield QC then maybe at Chatswood where they have the dual ChargePoint. Mainly an opportunity for new owners to meet.

Well I got the new service battery - $19x with installation.
I made the mistake of parking nose in next to a bee's nest. So there was a small drama with that. Remember the battery was dead, so they had to jump start it, before they could move it. Great fun.
While I was waiting they changed the battery, and I heard the car alarm go off twice, so more fun!!
Anyway during the process I spoke to the guy who did the work. His name is Grant and he is the Leaf serviceman. No, I didn't ask how much training he has had, but I kind of doubt they would give someone the job if he didn't have the qualifications - that would be a recipe for disaster. They would be better off telling customers to go to another service place, as they have been up till now. Don't forget that SJN has sold a large proportion of the Leafs in Sydney, so it makes sense that they are motivated to be on top of service as well.
Also when I was organising the appointment I asked if they had a Leaf guy to do the work and was told they had a new guy, and he would definitely be doing the work.
I asked Grant what had happened to the previous Leaf serviceman. He said "he has moved on".

Well I was referred to Rockdale when they could't do the service on my Leaf, because their (SJN) mechanic was off work. The same argument applies - It would be a big risk for them (Rockdale) to work on the car, if not suitably qualified. I never asked if there guy was qualified, but when organising the service I did ask if they could do it (to which they replied "yes").

Great to hear that SJN can do servicing. I just rang them too to confirm before I read this.
I'd be interested in meeting you all...when I finally get my new car at the end of this month. Interested in seeing the wheel upgrades in real life.

I may be pulling the trigger on a silver Leaf here soon, they were supposed to call today with confirmation of the colour...no call back yet 35K is a pretty good price considering the new model will be back up around the 55K mark...even if it has the latest tech.. I'm thinking the new model may not be worth the 20K difference....

I hope Nissan is not going to make the same mistake. If they sell 55k for the new LEAF, those EV haters on FB will have a lot of things to say. I wouldn't be quite so harsh. We need to respect the fact that at $40k Nissan is making a loss on every single Leaf sold in Oz, moreso at $35k. In fact the CEO of Nissan Australia was saying last month that the Govt should step in and start offering incentives for EVs because they could not continue to sell cars at a loss if they are to be priced competitively. Which I think is fair enough - not many investors would be thrilled with a business model which is loss-making by design. Would you be happy putting $1000 into a bank which tells you that at the end of the year when you withdraw it you'll get $750 back? So until we get a government that is positioned at least somewhere in the post-neanderthal era, us early adopters either stump up the cash or see EVs in Australia remain on life support. Think of it this way - without early adopters, mass adoption isn't possible. So while we may pay a premium, think of the wider social benefit we are investing in for the next set of buyers. I would happily pay up to $60k for a 500+ km range Leaf.

Okay, let's take a look at the history. When LEAF arrived in Australia, the same LEAF built in Japan and shipped to US was USD35k before incentives. Nissan will build rapid charger around USA. The exchange rate at that time was AUD 1 > USD 1. The LEAF in Australia was priced at AUD 51k + delivery (i.e., at least 55k drive away or AUD 46k before GST). Nissan won't do anything else except selling and servicing the car in dealer. People asked on Facebook that why it is so expensive in Australia. The answer was Australian used to pay such a price for green technologies. In other words, Australian tax. Everyone pissed off. I agreed the price at $40k is a bargain (with current exchange rate and I believe they paid when AUD was higher than USD) but $55k (at the exchange rate at that time) was a ripoff. My message is "don't charge Australian tax and don't treat me as I am an idiot". Btw, all new car from any manufacturers suffers loss in the beginning of productions (especially for car with new technologies). Nissan declared LEAF are profitable for them a couple months ago and the price of a LEAF in US wasn't change much.

Another point is in 2012 Nissan AU only had the option of the fully loaded Leaf, at a higher premium.
Now with the current Gen 2 Leaf there is at least 3 grades, and recently a fourth one has been added for the UK market.
I think that an option of a lower specced car here in AU is a good idea.
There are some features that should remain such as CHAdeMo, heat pump and 6.6kw charging will benefit our market immensly.

Done deal and got another silver Leaf! I had a look on the Nissan website and it seems there are no more Blue Leafs available either...

Congrats on your purchase jcan! Where did you buy yours from? Your profile says you're from Wentworth Falls. I've driven to Katoomba before and you need about 80% of your battery to get there from Penrith (forgot the exact amount). When do you expect delivery and how do you plan to charge it?
I can't believe I'm getting a bit excited about the thought that they're so close to selling out.

Congrats. I'm also interested to find out where and when you are getting it.
I'm still awaiting delivery of mine scheduled for late next week.
Just drove up to Blaxland on the weekend - was thinking that a return trip from Haberfield to Blaxland would be poss on a single charge. Wentworth Falls might need a top up at Penrith as Feng suggests I guess.

Delivery should be in around 4 weeks from Canberra. I went to Penrith Nissan and they told me to try another place to buy...so I did. I'm looking at getting a 7kw charger from recharge NSW. I originally had a 2012 leaf in Canada which I sold when we moved back to Australia. I've taken some photo's of scenic world in Katoomba. I'll stop in next time and talk to them about their power points, whether or not we need to ask. Looking forward to the next meet

I finally received my leaf today! Hooray. Ordered in June. I think it took 7 weeks. They had to replace the window trim and Nissan held them up with the parts. Arrived with three keys as I ordered an extra one at a cost of $350. Have driven it muchly today. Love it. Now, to get my head around the timers and carwings.

For Kiwi's, the Jaycar drybox combo is NZ$179 at jaycar.co.nz. The Ampfibian product is not available through bunnings.co.nz.

There's an indoor version of the Ampfibian for only $98 at Bunnings here. Looks pretty cool, maybe nicer than the Jaycar adaptor? Is there any cable heat or safety risk with the extension cables on the Ampfibian though... I thought any 'extension' to the existing EVSE lead was strongly discouraged?

My original ampfibian which I used almost daily at my work place for two years decided to give out. I think the flexible bits of cord connected to the unit must have given way because that's where it ummm 'sparked' and burnt the cord but it worked and shut off straight away. I have now purchased this cheaper 'indoor' unit as it's always located inside the meter box where the PowerPoint is. I'm more careful with the flexible ends now. I don't bend them if I don't have to. This unit is less than half the cost of the outdoor one and works exactly the same. Even cheaper on eBay.

Mini behaves like gen 1 torpedo , cuts out after 15 mins Gen 2 torpedo cuts off at 10 Secs when on 15 amp load
