Hello everyone, I've been away from the Forum for a bit.
I was wondering if anyone else has ever bothered setting up some of the RSS Information Channels that the Leaf can read out. I had a go on the weekend, adding 4 RSS information feeds via the Carwings website (that's the only way you can add them) and then downloaded them to the car. Things like ABC News, sport etc.
It's an interesting concept but I don't know if I'll ever really use them. The text-to-speech is fairly primitive (TTS has come a long way since 2011) so often the feeds are hard to understand, and the text itself is not displayed on the screen, only the first few words at the bottom of the map. I guess that's for safety reasons, but it limits its usefulness.
Some of the in-built feeds are good - the Energy Info and Eco Tree ones are good, they have nice graphics with them (but the graphics are only shown on the screen when the speedo reads 0 - otherwise you see the map). The one called "ID Check" seems to do nothing, as did one of the other ones, can't remember what it was.
Gimmick or has someone found a real use for it?

Gimmick.
Although a good start for a possible good tool in the future when technology catches up.

Yeah the text to speech is distracting. I added traffic notifications from the RTA/RMS website but don't use it.
