We'll be taking our Leaf for its next service in October, were you advised that a specific s/w update was done? If so we will ask them to not do it!! High regen is one of the things I really like about the Leaf, I absolutely don't want Nissan to neuter it. For me personally, I'd rather NOT to install the software update (based on the regen feature alone). However, I can't recommend the same for everyone else, as I don't know for sure what the software update is about. It might be better for the car for long term.

Low regen on gen 1 leaf is one reason I didn't buy gen 1 leaf. Eco mode does seem to increase regen on leaf
Imiev 2011 in B mode Holden volt 2012 in L mode Have great regen
Still waiting for Gm/Holden to fix earth Leakage issue

I am not able to tell, as my car had already lost three bars of capacity when the update was applied. Might be more noticeable on batteries with higher capacity. Tho the fix is to protect the battery from being overcharged, so you probably should apply it.

I would definitely do this software update. It improves the GOM, and the grabby brake issue. Any range lost by limited regen is gained by more capacity of the battery being made available. The update is definitely going to help battery life with minimal or no impact on range.

We still have the grabby brake issue, and reported it again at this week's service (out of warranty but the issue first occurred during warranty)
dealer was poorly informed, including not being aware the upgrade they did last service was meant to fix the issue "can't replicate".
the brakes were temporarily better after the software upgrade but have returned to being grabby since, which suggests it is somehow electrical/sensor/software not mechanical

Yes, mine are still grabby when I'm crawling along in traffic, usually caused by my foot resting on the brake without completely releasing. I find a complete release can relieve the problem temporarily. It doesn't worry me overly. Most of the time the brakes are fine.

Resurrecting an old thread because I've read something on Facebook which seems to have fixed my grabby brake problem. It was particularly bad recently: With the car off and your foot off the brake pedal, press the power button twice to put it in the accessory II position. Press and hold down the brake pedal for at least five seconds. Turn the car off. That's it. My car has been behaving since doing that. Apparently it needs to be done every few months. Hope it helps others here.

Shouldn't it be turn the car on, either to begin with or to end with?

Sorry, I mean press the power button one more time to turn it off from the accessory II position. Then you can turn the car on the usual way to drive.

Nope, just hold it down like normal. Seemed to do the job for me unless it was a conincidence. I'd love to hear the experience of others here.

It's less occurences during warmer months. I did what you proposed here before. PS: What I meant by 'grabby', there are 2 different issues (I have both of these): 1. Pulsating regen; 2. Sudden jump on brake force on low speed (i.e. grabby). <iframe width="21.180000000000064" height="2.9200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 21.180000000000064px; height: 2.9200000000000017px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_76907324" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="21.180000000000064" height="2.9200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 21.18px; height: 2.92px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1001px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_18167609" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="21.180000000000064" height="2.9200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 21.18px; height: 2.92px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 87px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_43240648" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="21.180000000000064" height="2.9200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 21.18px; height: 2.92px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1001px; top: 87px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_852599" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Hi Feng & Rusdy, My local 2012 Leaf already has the updated FW as indicated in the linked document, and I still occasionally get both the pulsating regen on light application, and grabby brakes at almost stopped speed. So I suppose this update was done locally by the dealer before I bought it - I didn't have to ask for it.
The "reset" procedure does work for me. This is based on what others have done from various sources. This is what I do, in a safe place -
1) Turn on car ,turn off the traction control (button on lower dash) 2) Put in Drive 3) Drive forward just a little 4) Press the brake pedal slowly and very firmly 5) Hold pedal down hard for a good 30 seconds 6) release brake pedal, apply handbrake , shut down car. 7) Start up normally, drive around the block to test. You should notice improved "feel".
I found that it doesn't work unless you hold the brake pedal down hard, like an emergency stop.
It seems to work for several months, and I have lovely smooth braking action, before I need to do it again.
Give it a try and see if it works for you. Maybe it depends on the FW version, who knows.. DAC

Wow.. I have had this issue occasionally over the years. I never knew it was a thing that was common among Leaf owners! I loaded up LeafSpy to check my brake version... (as noted in the link provided earlier) To find I apparently don't have brakes. Or rather, it wasn't listed in the ECU list

Strange, this is my list - What version of LeafSpy did you use ?

Have you run it more than once? Sometimes when I check for trouble codes it skips a few entries and needs a refresh or two to work. Might be the cheap dongle I'm using.

Sorry for not jumping back to this thread... dac1811 - LeafSpy version, 1.7.38 (as shown in the screenshot). Feng - I've just tried it again today, several times, same output. I might be booking the car in for a service (maybe... selling it soon, might sell earlier) so will bring this up with them if I do.

I am using the Android version of Leafspy Pro, maybe the iOS version has a bug ?
