Yesterday we got up very early and went down to Nissan Moorooka to pick up my Leaf, an exciting day. We stopped at BMW to use the fast charger, just for added confidence about getting home to the Sunshine Coast. Parked next to a re-charging i3, still love it. My husband drove the car home, while I drove our people mover. Late yesterday I got to have my first proper drive, and it is so zippy, and manages hills so well, and the quiet.... (other cars suddenly seem very noisy). There's been some negotiating going on, and I'm "allowing" Adam to drive it to his school tomorrow. I get it when I work later in the week. My son, 16, who has rolled his eyes every time an EV is mentioned, was actually very impressed when he got home from camp today and went in the car for the first time. The three kids are mastering all the touch screen controls at a rate of knots - I think it will take me a while to get used to the tech.

and that the Police won't hear him 3 blocks away when he floors it.
How much range did you have when you got home?

Congrats... and let me tell you, the love only increases over time! You realise more and more how horrible, noisy, dirty and clunky ICEs are in comparison. We are on a mission to replace our second car as soon as a long range EV (300km+) comes on the market at an affordable price (i.e. not Tesla). Rumour has it the next Leaf in 2016 might fit the bill.

and that the Police won't hear him 3 blocks away when he floors it. How much range did you have when you got home? Mr 16 just got his "L" plates last Wednesday, and went for his very first drive yesterday, but not in my precious Leaf. In January Jesse scraped my i30 on the carport while reversing it to move the bins, and to add insult to injury, waited for me to discover the damage rather than 'fessing up. So.... he can learn to drive on the seven-year-old Grandis instead, and we'll see later in the year whether he can drive the at-the-moment unblemished Leaf. I went for a ride up the range to Maleny this afternoon with my daughter, just to enjoy going up a big hill in an EV. The range on the guessometer went from 95km down to 45 km, and the climbed back to 73km after I went back to Eco for the trip back down the hill. It will take a while to get a feel for how far I can travel on a charge, but non-Eco is such fun, I'm feeling like a hoon. In answer to the question above, on the trip back from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast, there was 50km range left at the end, with the trip done in Eco. And Evangelist, I think you are right, I'm already noticing the noise made by an ICE. My youngest got a lift to school in the Leaf this morning, and complained when she saw the ICE arrive for the afternoon pick-up.
